Sharp, Chairman Creative Writing Group SOMEWHERE A LEAF MUST FALL Somewhere we know a leaf must fall; A leaf that’s tossed by wind and rain. Its season ends, and it must go; Never to return again. The leaves that fall, will soon decay Then time for them will be no more. Spring comes again, a new leaf buds, But never those that grew' before. A child is held in loving arms, It lives through sickness, joy and pain; When grown to manhood, he too must go Never to return again. When we have stood the storms of life, A day of rest, a tear, a sigh, We find a friend, we lose, we gain; Time to be born, a time to die; Life’s summer ends, then we can hear Death’s pale horse and rid er call. Eternity will claim its own. Somewhere we know a leaf must fall. —Mildred R. Harris. Children's Home Christmas Fund Drive On The annual Christmas Fund drive of the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina be gan recently with a goal of S50.000 to complete its budget for the next fiscal year. More than 18,000 letters were mailed Dec. 4 to citizens throughout the state telling the story of the 57-year-old agency. The Society is the oldest and only voluntarily supported agency in North Car olina handling adoptions on a state-wide basis. During the past year the Society has helped 600 babies and children, their natural parents and their adoptive par ents. Children from every county in the state have been helped by the Society since its origination. The Christmas drive is being conducted in areas in which there is no organized United Fund.
