Large Group Attends WSCS Program Carol singing, with accom panists Mrs. J. W. Bergthold, piano, Allen Barker of Ashe ville, violin, and Wayne Dick ens, drums; song's by the Carol choir; a program of Christ mas in other lands presented by Mrs. T. R. Jurwitz, Mrs. William Tendler. Mrs. Douglas Jones, Mrs. L. C. Jumper, Mrs. H. A. Kerlee, and Mrs. Bergthoid; an inspiring devo tional by the Rev. John Mc Whorter, pastor; and a cov ered dish supper were features of the December meeting of the Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the Black Mountain Methodist church Tuesday evening, Dec. 1, in the Fellowship hall in the Ed ucation building. Members of the carol choir who participated in the pro gram were Nancy Pollard, Joanne Hemphill, Mary Bene dict, Dede Styles. Alan Styles, Stephen Earley. Candy Clark, Emily Glenn, Ginger Wallin, and Donna Nanney. Mothers present enjoyed a special treat, as members of Girl Scout Troop 98 washed the dishes to help earn money for a trip to Washington, D. C. Those who helped were Phyllis Owenby, Ann Harris, Susan Stockton, Barbara Mil ler, Dede Styles, Martha Ann Rasnight, and Mrs. William Styles, leader. Research Key To Industrial Growth Research - in this age of changing technology - is the key to industrial growth Ro bert K. Drake, Manager Advance Engineering and Lab oratory at General Electric’s Outdoor Lighting Department told a group of 100 engineers meeting in Asheville recently. Drake was speaking to members and guests of the Western North Carolina En gineers’ Club. His topic: I “Industrial Research.” He told the organization that a large percentage of in dustry’s growth in the next three years will come from products not now produced. “To meet this challenge,” he said, “many companies are organizing to do their own research and development... a necessary part of industry’s operation to enhance stature, whether it be in profits, pres tige, or size.” j “Hendersonville,’ he went on to say “is the national headquarters for a specific business...we operate as a sep erate Company.
