Mrs. Gabrels is the former Miss Joyce Wells of Black Mountain. Mr. and Mrs. James A. Howard and children of Char lotte spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. J. W. Kin caid and and Mr. Kincaid. Guests of Mr and Mrs. William Styles last week-end were Mr. Styles' brother and ■family. Capt. and Mrs. Ralph E. Styles and daughter Lin da, formerly of Coronado. Calif now en route to Wash ington, D. C. Mrs. C. R. Longcoy, Sr., is spending a few days with the C. E. Keiths at Brierbrook. She has been in Charlotte for some time visiting her son. Clifford Longcoy and family. She will return to Charlotte to spend Christmas and then plans to fly to Inglewood, Cal., to visit her son, David Long coy. The Clifford Longcoys drove her up and spent the week-end here. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Rudisill and daughter Lynda are at home after a month's visit with members of their fami lies in Charlotte. M. Norton. Mr. Free man is Mrs. Norton’s brother Mrs. C. C. Godfrey is spend ing a few days with friends at Fort Myers, Fla., and vicini ty. She drove Mrs. Effie Avena to Tallahassee over the week-end. Mrs. Avena will spend the winter in Florida. Mi. and Mrs. J. 0. \Yil Hams. 1 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Buck MONTREAT Miss Julia Stokes The Circles of the Women of the Montreal Church met for their last meetings of the church vear this past week Circle No. 2 met with the chairman, Mrs. Joseph Hopper Refreshments were served and a short business session and devotions was held by Mrs. Hopper. Rev. \V. J. Gammon led the Bible study which was the last chapter of the study book. Those present were Mrs. Hopper. Mrs. Frank Donoho. Miss Margaret Carstens. Mrs. Marion Corbett. Mrs. Geo, En nett, Mrs Will Ross. Mrs John Payne Williams, Miss Eliza beth Wood house. Mrs J I. Paisley and Mr. Gammon. Circle No 3 met in Bride wood with Mrs. Harold Co burn. These two circles met on Tuesday. Dec. 1. at 3 p in. Re freshments were served after the meeting. After a brief business session carols were sung with Mrs. G Slight at the organ. Mrs. Coburn told a Christmas story A ( hristmas message was given after the Bible study Mrs. A. Wilhelm played and sting Christmas folk songs. Mrs. Graham served frozen punch in Santa Claus mugs with cookies and candy. Mrs. Gammon began the meet ing with singing of carols and a Christmas message. Mrs. S C Farrior read a poem and Miss Margaret Hopper read a Christmas message from the Christian Herald Mrs. Gra ham gave a Christmas message, more carols were sung. Those present were Mrs Gammon. Mrs A. F. F'ogartie. Mrs. L. Nelson Bell. Mrs Karl Snyder. Mrs F N Wilson. Mrs. Joe Wilkerson. Mrs. F. C. Sherry. Mrs. M. C Wood. Miss Alice nor arc on a business trip to thi‘ eastern part of the state. They will return Friday. Mr. A- Mrs. Johnny F’ox and small daughter are now resid ing in the Greenwood cottage, Portman Villa road. Mr. Fox is employed with Seawright Florist. S Sgt. Wade Rice, Mrs. Rice, and their children, Lau rie and Todd Alan, are at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Higginbotham until their furniture arrives from Hampton, Ya. They will live in the Summey house on old Lakey Gap road. Wade will leave Jan. 4 for a year’s assignment in Iceland. Mrs. Nina Wilson has re turned to the Oakley apart ments. Montreat road, after a visit with hei brother in Candler. Mr. and Mrs. Dick \\ yrick and daughter, Cecelia, have moved to their new home on Montreat, road. Dr. Karl Snyder held a business session Mrs. John Haw gave a report of what the committee will do about the gate-side park. More mountain azaleas will bo planted.' also bushes that will be in bloom during the summer months such as crepe myrtle, buddleia, and other bushes. Mrs G. Slight has been appointed secretary-treasurer to fill the unexpired term of E C Keaton, who has resigned A movie on rose planting was shown. The next meeting will be held in the spring. The worship sendee of the Montreat church was held in Gaither chapel 11 o'clock. The pastor. Dr. A F Fogartie. preached on “Tin Voice in the Wilderness”. On Sunday at 7.30 p.m. the installation service of the Rev Fogartie was held in Gaither chapel. Dr. V G. N. .1 A delightful musical was held on Sunday afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. C A Stubbs This introduced the Christmas season and we were able to see some new talent as well as old ones The program began with Robin Stubbs, who played two piano selections, Ann Stubbs played on the piano, “Minuet Paderewski. Mrs A W Wilhelm of New York state played early Christ mas carols. French. German, and English and accompanied herself on an auto harp. Mrs. Collins Lee sang twrn selections accompanied by Mrs. Slight then Mrs. Slight played several numbers on the piano.
