C. CP&L Promotes Two Staff Men Donald K. Fry, 27-year vet eran with Carolina Power & Light Company, has been named Assistant to the Pres ident. The appointment was an nounced by Louis V. Sutton, CP&L president. He said Fry will perform many of the du ties of the late William L. Yoder, CP&L secretary who died December 12. A native of West Virginia and engi neering graduate of N. C. State College, Fry was an en gineer in the rate department. R. Tyler Presson, Jr., has been promoted to senior en gineer in the rate department, from a position in the substa tion planning section. Presson is a native of Wilmington, holds an engineering degree from N. C. State college and has worked with CP&L nine years. BROAD RIVER by Mrs. M. M. Elliott Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth El liott of Baltimore, Md., spent the holidays with Kenneth’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Elliott on upper Cedar Creek and Mrs. Elliott’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Stroude, and children Nancy and Tom my on Broad River. Mr. Lonnie Toney of the U. S. Army and his wife Imo gene and daughters Susan and Katha of Jacksonville, Ark., spent the holidays with Imo gene’s parents, 7vlr. and Mrs. Jack Elliott and Jimmy and Lonnie's mother, Mrs. Lonnie Toney, Sr., in Marion. Mr. and Mrs. Taft Elliott of this section were dinner guests of Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hyder and children at Swannanoa last Sunday. Mrs. Martha Nanney of Su gar Ilill is visiting her sister in-law, Mrs. Dora Nanney in this section. Yewitt Elliott, Jimmy Guy Voss, with help of Mrs. Davis Clark, have just completed a bathroom, chimney and flue repairs for Mr. and Mrs. James G. Davis on Cedar Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Partusch of Miami, Fla., stopped by Mr. and Mrs. Davis’ on their way to Michigan on business. Air. and Mrs. Partusch pur chased Mr. James Davis’ place on upper Cedar Creek last fall. 1'hey expect to return to their home place in February, 1961. Mrs. Viola Gilliam of Cedar Creek is having a bathroom built in her new home. Mrs. Gilliam’s daughter, Bettie Oilliam of Washington spent Cnristmas with her mother and children. My daughter-in-law Mrs. V. M. Elliott, and daughter Nao mi, of Black Mountain and Alary Jo Allison of Old Fort visited us Christmas evening. Miss Verdia Elliott’s daugh ter of Lewis Elliott, is spend ing Christmas with her broth er Leroy Elliott and family in Carlisle, Ark. Mr. and Mrs. James G. Da vis had the following guests: Mr. Davis' daughter and hus band, Mr. and Mrs. Sewali Brown and daughters Velva and Coline and James Bruce Grant, and Mr. and Mrs. Al vin Connor and children of 1 Munfred Cove last week. My son Jack Elliott of East Marion visited us last Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. McPherson of Hialeah, Fla., spent Christmas at their place in this commun ity. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris of Black Mountain visited Mrs. Harris’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Taft Elliott and daugh ter Lois last Sunlay. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Laven der of Crooked Creek visited Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Elliott last Sunday. Mr. Randolph Taylor who has been very ill for the last week is able to be up and a round again.
