COMMUNITY CALENDAR Xmgmon Brewster, Jr., wt# speaA at tAe Warren Wt/son Codege commencement on Saturday, May 74. Dr. Brewster addressses WWC graduates Kingman Brewster Jr., Am bassador of the United States to the United Kingdom and former Yale University Presi dent, wiii speak at commence ment exercises at Warren Wilson College at 10 a m. on Saturday, May 14, at the W arren W ilson College Chapel. Bom in Massachusetts, Brewster received his B.A. degree from Yale in 1941, and continued his education there until 1948, when he received his Bachelor of Laws degree. He joined the Harvard Law School faculty in 1950 where he served until 1960. Brewster resigned from Harvard to accept an appoint ment as Provost of Yale Uni versity in 1960. He also held the rank of Professor of Law at Yale from 1960 to 1963 and parttapatea m seminars at Yale Law School. In 1963, Brewster was appointed the seventeenth President of Yale University, a post he held until 1977 when he resigned to become Ambassador to the United Kingdom. Brewster has received many honors and appointments. In 1965, he was appointed a member of the President's Commission on Law Enforce ment and Administration of Justice. President Lyndon Johnson named Brewster to serve on a special 20-member National Advisory Commission on Selective Service in 1966. "Up With People" performances have been seen in live concert by over 8 million people in 47 countries. Featured in the 1982-3 ver sion of the show are the sights and sounds of the 1960's featuring the music of Bob Dylan, the Beads Boys, Diana Ross and the finale of Hair. Tickets are (7.50 for adults and $5.50 for students and senior dtizens. Tickets are on sale now at the Civic center outlets and box office. Fifty cents will be discounted on advance ticket sales. F!ea Market and Rummage Sa!e The Juvenile Evaluation Center in Swannanoa will hold its Annual Flea Market and Rummage Sale on Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21, beginning at 9:30 a m. on both days. Rems are being solicited for the sale. Things needed are: dothing, records, books, ap pliances, furniture, toys, puz zles, games, jewelry, tools, pidures, dishes, and plants. Pick up will be available for large items. Receipts and letters of acknowledgement will be given for tax purposes. Ben Lippen Concert Choir to sing The Ben Lippen Concert Choir will sing at the Ridge crest Baptist Church on Sun day, May 15, aril am. The concert choir is part of the Christian service outreach of Ben Lippen School. The choir is composed of 9 sophomores, 13 juniors, and 20 seniors. Ben Lippen is Scottish for "Mountain of Trust." Approx imately half of the student body are children of foreign missionaries. The public is cordially invit ed to share in this worship service. Asheville Area Alzheimers support group to meet The Asheville Area Alz heimers and Related Disorders Family Support Group will meet on Wednesday, May 18, at 7 p.m. in the Ballroom at Appalachian Hall, Caledonia Road, Asheville. The speaker will be Dr. Gerard Stamm, psychologist, who will speak on the "Use of Psychometric Testing in Diagnosis." The public is invited to attend. For further information, call 704-253-3681. Kenneth Port, a representa tive of the N.C. Republican Party, will speak on Precinct organization. Car Wash scheduled The Black Mountain Swan nanoa Jaycees will sponsor a car wash on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a m. until noon at the Northwestern Bank in Swan-, nanoa. The charge will be only $3 for an outside wash. Tom Curtain Piayers to perform The Tom Curtain Flayers of the Blade Mountain Middle School will perform a comedy, "Grandad Steps Out," on FHday, May 13, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the school. Census Bureau to take survey in community The Bureau of Census will be conducting a survey of employment in the area during the work week of Monday, May 16, through Saturday. May 21. In addition to the usual questions on current employ ment, the May survey will indude questions concerning pension and retirement plan coverage. Information supplied by in dividuals participating in the survey is kept strictly confi dential by law and the results are used only to compile statistical totals.
