Mitchell, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga. /few: OMJen&v Broad River 4-H News Kevin Gilliam Owenby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Owenby of Broad River, was one of two acts chosen to compete at district level competition in Bryson City on Tuesday, June 21. He sang "Elvira" and was backed up by T.J. Wright and John Grice. Kevin was accom panied by his mother, ISt, on the piano, Sharon Dotson on bass guitar, and Ron Tosto on the drums. Kevin, age 7, is in the first grade at Black Moun tain Primary School. Use other act chosen to compete at district level is from the Avery's Creek 4-H Club. They performed a skit to "Swangin." The Broad River 4-H Club, which has only been organized a few months, had six groups in the talent show, including four singing groups and two piano solos. The twenty-two contestants, who came from all over the county, presented a wide variety of talent. Other 4-H members from Broad River who performed included Jennifer and Monica Clark, Trade Harper, Misty Reising, Penny and Wendy Connor, Becky Kendrick, Kristi Grice, and Cindy Stroud. As an outreach service, the SCA visits the iocai Juvenile Eval uation Center and a retirement home on a regular basis. Hilliard and Ballew will be sophomores at the college next year.
