First Brick Home In No. 8 Township Plato Elliott Is Finishing First Complete Brick Home—One Built 100 Years Ago, . To Editor of The Star: Plato J. Elliott is erecting a brick residence. The walls are up ready for the roof. It has ten rooms in cluding basement with water and sewerage system. Plato laid the con crete foundation. The brick W'ork was done by Spot, James Wallace and James Ross with James Goode as mortorman—all colored men of Shelby. This is written as a com pliment for their faithful and effi cient work for the first complete house they have put up with a fore man. We think it compares favor ably with similar work in Shelby. This is the only complete brick residence in No. 8 township. There was a brick residence on the old John K. Willis place, built about 100 years ago by Cageman McCurrry, now torn down, A long while be tween brick houses, but they will soon become common as the lumber supply fails. Crops are good with gentle rains all summer. The health of our sec tion is good and all is lovely. JAMES C. ELLIOTT. COMING MONDAY — MARION DAVIES IN “THE PATSY” Webb Theatre OF COURSE The Law Of Compensation They were discussing Nature’s law of compensation. Said he: “Take a man whose hearing is im paired, for instance. His eyesight is usually better, and his intuitive per ception is invariably above the aver age.” And then she caught the point— Since you mention it, I believe you are right. I have noticed that when a man has a short leg, the other is always longer.” With which thought in mind, we stroll forth into the fields of finance. Wherein lies the compensation for the man who suddenly awakes to the fact that he has allowed years to pass, with out laying aside as much as he could? Is it in the thought, “I had a good time, anyway?” If that be compensation for shiftless, thriftless years, let him who believes it take joy therein.
