GIRLS LEAD BOY PUPILS IN UNDERSTANDING BIBLE St. Charles, Mo,—Parents now may determine how quickly a child Is likely to grasp the meaning of a biblical quotation. For eight-year-old the chances of understanding are found to average 42 in 100 and for 16-year-old intel ligence 88, with a regular increase in ages between. This finding is reported to the American Association for the Ad vancement of Science by Dr. Ralph T. Case of Lindenwood college. 'Hie analysis is a guide in selecting pas sages for children which shall be readily understandable. Tests were tried upon 3,200 school children in four representative Iowa school systems. Doctor Chase found "there proved to be a slight ly superior comprehension on the part of girls at every mental age." Wiadyslaw Szczpanliewlcz, a na tive of Poland, who has become a naturalized American citizen har. petitioned the court at Chicago to change his name to Walter Shep so his friends will be able to greet him by a pronounced name. His son Mieczslaw also wishes hts name changed to Matthew Shep. Trv Sar Wants Ads. Q-^ Eskridge News VOL. 2. MAR. 28, 1930 NO. 58 The purchase of an automobile Involves a considerable amount of money and It should be care fully considered from all angles before a final decision Is made. The value of any car to you depends on the value or the quality built Into the car at the factory. How much extra will you have to pay, for any car othei than a Model A Ford, for the dealer's distribution, selling, and financing C03t? These charges are costs that are paid by the purchaser of an automobile for which there Is no extra value In the car. Telpehone: Hello, I d like to know where I c»n get hold ol Miss Osgood? Operator: I don't know; she's awfully ticklish. • "I do hope you keep your cows In^a pasture," said Mrs. Newly wed, as she paid the milkman. "Yes, madam,” replied the milkman, "of course, wo keep them in a pasture." "I'm so glad,” gushed Mrs. Newlywed. “I have been told that pasteurized milk is much the best.” There is approximately $80.00 extra value built into the Model A Ford car at no extra cost to the purchaser. This item or extra value includes the Shatterprooi windshield glass, Houdaille shock absorbers. Ford Steel ' Spoke wheels, and Rustless steel oi which all the exposed mefal part: are made. He—What do you drink? She—I often wonder. "How'd you get that smudge on your face?’ ‘’Well, honey, the car broke down and I had to fix it.” "Since when do you grease your car with red( grease?’” Now is the time tp have the grease in the transmission and differential of car changed from' a winter grade of hrorlcant to a summer grade. The light grade of lubricant which Is used for winter driving will not give satis factory lubrication during the summer months as it Is a very light lubricant to start with and the heat of the summer months will reduce it to practically an oil. Mother: Quiet, dear, the sand man is coming. Son: Okay, mom, a dollar and I wont tell pop. Our greasing department Is furnished with the very latest equipment for gresatng and serv icing any make of car. Bring your car in and let us flush out your transmission and dlfferen-. tlal and fill them with a very high grade of summer lubricant. Why not have your car greas ed every 500 miles shid let he grease take up the wear and fric tion of all moving points parts instead of the bearing of your car taking this strain. It is much cheaper to buy grease than it Is to have new bearing installed. “I see you're letting ycur wife drive the car now." "Yes, I figure she'd have It looking about right for my son to take it to college with him in September.” Ask for a demonstration of the new Model A Ford ear. It will be •a revelation. If you are considering the pur chase of a new automobile Just stop and figure what car will give you the most satisfactory service at the lowest cast. We feel sure yr „ .viH decide on the Mod- . el A Ford If you are fair In youi figures. A demonstration incurs no ob ligation on your part, it will dc a pleasure to let you try out one of the New Model A Ford cars. CHAS. L. The Carolina Theatre is the only Theatre or other busi ness operated under the management of the D. & R. Amusement Company of Charlotte, N. C. The Carolina Theatre operates like any other local concern. It docs its banking in Shelby at the First Na lional Rank. It does its buying in She!by, as far as demands can be supplied. It pays its bills in Shelby and maintains a bank account, the same as any other individual concern.
