The Christ mas Idea was carried out in the de corations and refreshment plates, a miniature Santa Claus gracing each plate. Rook was played at two taDiea during the afternoon, at the close of which the young hostess was assist ed by her mother, Mrs. C. H. Har din, tar serving a salad course with;, sweets. Smith, and Mr. Smith, who were married last week. The hostess wore a becoming flowered chiffon dress, while Mrs. Smith had chosen for the occasion a black vel vet dinner gown, with which she wove a shoulder corsage of pink rosea and valley lilies. The dinner table was centered with a bowl of red carnations, tall ’ed candles burned at each corner of the table and little Christmas place cards were used. An elegant live course dinner was served. Covers were laid for: Mr. and Mrs. Hoey, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Play Hoey, Mr, and Mrs, Prank Hoey Mr. and Mrs, C. C. McBrayer. Mr. Wade Hoey and Mr Ralph Hoey. Hoey receiv ed heT guests in a powder blue geor gette afternoon frock, and Un. Smith was charmingly dressed in pink satin with which she wore a shoulder corsage of orchids and lil ies of the valley. A bowl of red carnations w as used as a centerpiece, and little red cas ket filled with green mints ware used as place cards. A Christmas?' atmosphere was further lent to the appearance of the table by poinsec tia salads which were served on the table. An elegant five-course dinner was served. Covers were laid tor. On Tuesday afternoon the Con tempoiary book club met with Mrs. B. O. Stepheuson at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F R. Morgan on Cleveland Springs road. The meet ing was called to order by the presi dent, Miss Mary Adelaide Roberts, who conducted a short business meeting after which she gave an in teresting group of current events The program was then turned over to Mrs. Shem Blackley who read a story. The afternoon was spent in j pleasant games and contests after which the gifts were presented to the bride in a pretty Christmas bas ket. The hostesses were assisted by Misses Edna Earl. Mary t.ou, and Doris Cline in serving a delicious salad course. Out of town guests who enjoyed this hospitality were Miss Hester Cline, of Gastonia, Mrs. W. J. Lackey, of Falls ton, and Mrs. Ray mond Cline, of Kings Mountain. Jones-Pennington Wedding Recently. I *Mr. Calvin Esau Pennington an !nounces the marriage of his daugh ter Jeuelle Pittman, to Mr. Arthur Curthbert Jones on Friday, Decem ber 19. 1930. The wedding, which was a Quiet affair, took place at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. T. Jy Cagle, and Mr. Cagle at Gaff ney. The bride wore a becoming [ suit of dark red with black astrakan ; trimmings and harmonizing' acces sories. The young Couple left im mediately after the ceremony for a brief wedding trip. Mrs. Jones is a sister of Mrs. O. Turner of this place and has spent some time here with her in the last 'few years where she has acquired a wide circle of friends by her at tractive personality. She is a grad uate of the Belmont high school Mr. Jones is a graduate of N. C. State college at Raleigh, but has for sometime made his home in Wash ington where he holds a position in the office of textile research. Mrs, John McCtui d anti Mrs. George Hoyle were hostesses hist evening at a buffet supper at the home of • Mr. and Mrs. MeClurd when they entertained the families of all their brothers and sisters who live here. Christmas decorations were used and a delicious dinner was informally served, the guests being seated at small tables scat tered about through living room, reception room and dining room. A. color scheme of red and green was carried out. Those present with their respec tive families were: Mr. and Mrs. MeClurd, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyle, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Laughrldge, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Baber. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baber, and Mrs. Jack Miller and her two daughters. These toothers and sisters also celebrated Christmas day, as is their custom, with a family dinner and Christmas tree. The family celebration this year was held with Mr. and Mrs. George Hoyle at their home on W Marlon street. Fortnight Bridge Club To Meet. Miss Mary Lineberger was hostess on Tuesday evening at the home of her parents in Belvedere Heights at a nlnformal get-together party in honor of Miss Hudlow Hill, of Con cord, who Is visiting her this week. Trinity, Dec. 30.—A wedding of j much interest in this community was that of Miss Malina Jolley to Mr. Austell Lovelace, The wedding vows were solemnized at, Gaffney, Dec. 24th, by .'the probate judge, with only n few friends present. Among those were Misses Ionise and Ethel Lovelace and Emmett McKin ney. Mrs. Lovelace is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. K. D. N. Jolley. She has been teaching in the public schools of the comity for sev eral years and Is much loved by ! or host of friends. Mr. Lovelace is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Love lace and is a prosperous young farmer of this place. Mr. and Mrs, Clifford Jolley an j nounce the birth of a fine daughter.
