Mesdames George Washburn, Eu gene White, Gary Hamrick and Miss Sallie Bettis spent Wednesday in Spartanburg, S. C. Judge and Mrs. E. Y. Webb and Mrs. Webb's two children, Lilly and Jimmy Taylor, have gone to Tarboro to visit Mrs. Webb's mother, Mrs. John Pender, where the children will remain for a visit of several weeks, Judge and Mrs. Webb return-! ing home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs, Wiseman Kendall, of Greensboro, spent yesterday and; last night here with Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Kendall. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Smith and son. Douglas Jean, spent the week end with Mr. Smith’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Smith, at Cramer ton, where they were special guests at a dinner given Saturday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Smith in celebra tion of the birthdays of Mr. C. W. Smith and Mr. Nelson Smith. Mr. Jack Miller has returned to Griffin, Ga.. after spending ten days here with his family. CMrs. E. E. Post and her daughter, Jeannette, are visiting relatives in Charlotte this week. Mr. and Mrs. William Rand Thrayer. of Cohassett, Mass , have started housekeeping this week. Mrs, Thrayer will be honored at a tea given by Mrs. Lucius H. Thrayer. of Boston, on Tuesday. They arriv ed in Shelby on Tuesday with Mrs. George Blanton, who had gone to Chattanooga to bring them home. Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Gee and two sons, Messrs. Alex and Felix Gee, are leaving today for a visit to Mr. Gee's relatives in Keysville, and Richmond, Va, Miss Evelyn Payne, of Asheville, and Miss Elizabeth Hayes, of Gran Its Palls, are guests this week at the home of Rev. and Mrs. L. B. Hayes. Mr. D. R. Yates left Sunday with friends from Hickory for a visit to relatives in Hastings, Neb., and Ve doak, Iowa. Dr. J. W. Harbison is spending to day in Statesville.
