AND PRISONERS QUARTERS
The State Highway Commission will receive sealed bids
:°f^e ®f 1he Bridge Engineer in Raleigh. N. C . until
30:00 A. M. October 19, 1931, for the construction of 75 man
prison camps located as follows: near Hazelwood, Haywood
County : 1 mile south of Kenansville, at present camp site on
Route 40, Duplin County; on western citv limits of Warren
ton Warren County; H miles northeast of Rockingham
Richmond County; Fair Grounds at Siler City. Chatham
County; for the construction of 100 man prison camps lo
cated as follows: 1 mile from Mt. Pleasant on Route 74 to
ward Albemarle. Cabarrus County ; 3.V miles south of New
ton, at present Highway Garage on Route 16, Catawba Coun
ty; just out of Shelby and adjacent to the Fait- Grounds,
Cleveland County; and for the construction of Prisoners’
Quarters and dining hall for 75 man camp 1 mile north of
Jackson at old County Home on Route 305, Northampton
County. Alternate bids will be received as stated above for
the Prisoners Quarters only for both the 75 man camp and
the 100 man camp at the old Fair Grounds, adjacent to the
south city limits of Fayetteville, Cumberland Countv. Sep
arate bids will be received on othe individual Prison’ Camps
and Prisoners’ Quarters, and combined bids will also be re
ceived on any number of Prison Camps and for Prisoners’
quarters.
Bidders can ascertain the location uf the various sites'
by applying to the following Engineers of the State Highway '

Catawba County Camp, H. E. Noell, Statesville; Chatham
County Camp. A. T. Ward, Pittsboro; Cleveland Countv
Camp, W. A. Broadway. Shelby: Cumberland Countv Camp,
W. P. Morson, Fayetteville; Duplin Countv Camp, A. K. Mal
lard, Burgaw; Haywood County Camp, J. C. Walker. Ashe
ville; Northampton County Camp, C. F. Gore, Weldon ; Rich
mond County Camp, T. F. Royall, Wadesboro; Warren Coun
ty Camp. J. W. Taylor, Warrenton.
Plans and specifications for the 75 man camp and the
100 man camp may be purchased by forwarding a certified
check in the amount of $5.00 for each set to Mr. George F.
Syme, Senior Highway Engineer, State Highway Commis
sion, Raleigh, N. C. Each proposal shall be accompanied by
a certified check, or cashier’s check, in the amount of one
thousand dollars for each camp or Prisoners’ Quarters bid
on. Bid Bonds will not be considered. Said deposit to be
returned in the event of failure of the successful bidder to
execute the contract within ten (10) days after the award.
Contractors will be required to furnish bond with some sure
y company authorized to do business in this State in the
full amount of the contract. Where the amount of the pro
posal exceeds ten thousand ($10,000.00) dollars. Contrac
tors must produce evidence that they have complied with
the Public Laws of 1025 and 1931 l>efore their bids will Ik*
considered.
