Sauntering twit on the veranda of her hotel. she seated herself next to a handsome young man. She coughed slightly, but the stranger ignored her. She shot him a flirtatious glance that proved plainly she wanted to get ac quainted, but he gave no answering sign. Finally a piece of dainty linen was wafted to the ground at hit feet. “Oh, I’ve dropped my handker chief.” she murmured softly. The handsome youth turned a cold and unresponsive eye upon her. “Mad am,” he said, "my weakness is 14 quor.” |To Bury Fountain | Under Avalanche Ol l Votes For Ehringhaus | IJttlr Sentiment seen l or < andi date I or Governor In Second Rare. 1 Concord Tribune ! Still apparently "mad' a? thR I he terms "the machine" in North ! Carolina. Lieutenant Governor Fountain has decided to enter the second primary, although he trailed ,1. C R Ehringhaus by approxi mately 47.000 votes in the first pri nt ary. Mr Fountain has the right, to run if he's not satisfied with the licking administered on June 4th, but. the Democratic party in the state would have been in more strategic posi tion if as many contests as possible had been avoided You rant go be fore the people with lot of personal bitterness which is reflected in per sonalities. without stirring up some trouble The trouble seems to be that Mr Fountain can t understand that, the majority of the people don't want him. He talks about tire votes Mr Ehringhaus didn't get a showing the people are against the "machine": but he says nothing about the vote1 Mr Ehringhaus did get. And sure ly the Rocky Mount candidate doesn’t mean to toll me voters of North Carolina that they didn't know what they » were doing or June 4th. It. seems almost a certainty that I Mr Fountain will get but small pari | of the Maxwell vote. In fact, w< ! believe that should he feel called t< j do so, Mr. Maxwell would ask hit followers to support the Elizabeth City man. In Cabarru . for instance Mr Ehringhaus received approxi mately 2000 votes, Mr, Maxwel about,. 2250 and Mr Fountain 154 We believe if the same number di voters should go to the polls for the run-off—and they won't—that Mr Ehringhaus would get fully 90 pe: cent of the Maxwell votes. Cabnr rus people weren't trying to "spank’ Governor Gardner of the Democra tic administration by voting foi Mr. •Maxwell. Instead they though they were supporting the man bet able to carry the state through . trying period And now that- Mr. Fountain ha: decided to see that the thin) through we hope the voters will set to It that he is through. For th< average candidate a licking of 47 00< would be enough, but not so wit! Mr. Founta'n. His ego won t let bin think that North Carolinians wen serious about this matter of retir ing him to private life. So the bes thing the party can do now is ti bury him under such an avalanch of Ehringhaus votes that will stil him for ail time to come. -f—, Jack Sweatt Marries Young Georgia Girl .
