PEOPLE IN THE NEWS Powell Named Top Employee Of Quarter At Sunny Point Janicc W. Powell of Shallotte re cently was named "Employee of the Quarter" at the Military Ocean Terminal, Sun ny Point (MOT SU), according to the Depart ment of the Army. With 16 years of experi ence at MOT SU, she works as a transports- POWELL tion assistant in the terminal's traf fic management division. Ms. Powell was cited for excel lence in handling a higher than nor mal workload during an extended period of abscnccs by three of five division employees. Her division chief credited her for "exceptional performance and dependability." During the other employees' ab sences, Ms. Powell assumed control of the division's mission and clear ed approximately 100 loads of car go for inland movement from the terminal. Completes Course Private First Class Stanley G. Williams Jr. recently completed the wheeled vehicle repairer course at the U.S. Army Ordnance Center and School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Williams is thr son of Stanlev and Ruby Williams of Winnabow. His wife, Melissa, is die daughter of Terry R. Lee and Gail Collins of Long Beach. The 10-week course taught sol diers to maintain wheeled vehicles, with emphasis on maintenance pub lications, tools, diagnostic equip ment and shop safety. McCoy Cited Mary L. McCoy of Bolivia has been selected as employee of the month for March at Bolivia Elementary School. Brunswick County Agricultural Extension Chairman Milton Cole man and extension agent William Barrow will show films and provide information to the group. Spokesperson Elizabeth Tandy said the program will be beneficial to all newcomers and other resi dents who lost plants as a result of Hurricane Hugo or the December winter storm. Seminar Topic !s Eating Disorders Eating disorders will be the topic of a free seminar scheduled Wed nesday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the Santee Cooper Auditorium at the corner of 21st Avenue and Oak Street in Myrtle Beach, S.C. A registered dietitian will talk about the symptoms of anorexia nervosa and bulimia and treatments. Hardee of Winnabow has been selected as volunteer of the month at Bolivia Elementary School, where is he a member and past chairman of the school adviso rv board and a oast president of the P.T.A. A native of Hickman's Cross roads, he is a graduate of UNC- Wil mington and is employed as a su pervisor at Occidental Chemicals in Wilmington. He is a director of the Winnabow Volunteer Fire Depart ment and attends Town Creek Bap tist Church, where he is a member of the Baptist Men and serves as R.A. director. He and his wife, the former Carol Usher, have two daughters, Jennifer and Kelly, who arc students at South Brunswick Middle School. Trees Will Serve As Memorial In a memorial service today (Thursday) Sunset Sands Garden Club plans to plant three trees for Arbor Day near the boat ramp at the end of Park Road in Seaside. The trees will be dedicated to the memory of the late Ann Masline, a past club member; Mac White and Fran Orava, past residents of the Sea Trails community.
