Gary Mott Shoots 70 In Carolina Shores Event Gary Mott fired a net 70 to lead the first flight in the Carolina Shores Men's Golf Association low net tournament last Saturday. Runncrs-up in the top flight were Jim Dcchan with 70, Bill Haupt with 71 and George Balbach with 71. Don Errickson led the second llight with net 66. Other top scorers were Pat Lupia with 70, Mike Stachowiak with 72 and Pete Sperry with 72. Closcst-to-thc pin winners were Bob Rcmais at the third hole, Jim Sullivan at the eighth, Ed Garvcy at the 12th and Jim Short at the 16th. Ruth's Renegades Ruth's Renegades hosted a low putts tournament last Thursday with golfers competing at Eagles Nest anil Bricrwood. Top finishers at Eagles Nest were Madeline Mahony with 35 putts. Dons Pcarce with 38 and Marie Tcr/.o with 39. Irene Terzo had low gross with 1 1 1 and Mahony had the low net with 75. At Bricrwood, Phyllis Harding led the way with 29 putts. Runners up were Marion Corbin with 30 and Evelyn Wuthrich and Marie Broekstra with 31 each. Corbin had the low gross of 100 and Harding shot the low net of 61. Wuthrich had a chip-in at the eighth hole. Brierwood Men The team of Chuck Dugan, Bob Allwcin, Barbara Baxter and Betty r?'.c;rker shot 6-under-par 30 to win the P""rwood Men's Golf Association nine-hole mixed scram ble last Thursday. Finishing one shot back in second place was the team of Jim Eryant, Wally Kartsen and Alice Micali. John Twomcy, Burlcy Athan, Dcde Havenga and Irene Bryant took third with 32. In other play last Thursday at Bricrwood, Bill Miller took first place in an individual low net tour nament with a round of 67. Runncrs-up were Paul Dunfee with 68, Bob Allwcin with 69, Paul Keeley with 70 and Jerry Wolff with 71. On July 12, the foursome of Jim Roach, Dick Pulliam, Charlie Stransky and Matt Monaghan won a best ball event with a score of 120. Teams counted the three best balls on par threes and two best balls on par fours and fives. The winners were 36 under par. Finishing second at 28 under par was the team of Jim Crosby, Bill Allen, Paul Keeley and Jerry Wolff. Dave Harper, Emilc Vrydaghs and Bill Goldsberry took third with a score of 26 under par. They used a blind draw for their fourth score. Foxy Ladies Jan Loflin shot gross 78 to lead the first flight in the Brierwood Foxy Ladies tournament last Thurs day at The Gauntlet. Sara McCullough, Toni Iossi and Ginger Sugrue tied with the low of 75 in the top flight. Second flight winners included Marion Johnson with gross 98 and Ruth Linder with net 75. Bobbye Cordisco had the second low net of 78. Top finishers in the third flight were Dodie Niland with gross 112 and Margaret Pingo with net 79. Finishing r?ne shot back in second place was the team of Ed Hughes and Stan Risch. A1 Cambria and Marv Peters took third with 68. Three teams tied for fourth with rounds of 69. They were Frank Seaboldt and Tom Coniglio, Doug Mehne and Don Lowry, and Ted Acton and Gerry Nappy. Augic Douglass and Gene Williams shot 70. Closcst-to-the-pin winners were John Ewart at the fifth hole, Acton at the 12th and Mehne at the 17th. Brierwood Ninettes Pat Narazinski took first place in the Bricrwood Ninettes tournament last Friday. Golfers used three clubs and a putter. Runners-up were Joyce Rose and Ann Poison, who made par at the third hole. Harriet Schuler had low putts with 14. She was followed by Rose and Li/. Bruce with 1 7 each. Calabash Veterans Bill Mullikin, Don Mahnckc, Alan Kletchka and Joe Ready shot 263 to win the Calabash Veterans Golf Association tournament last Saturday at Beachwood Golf Club. Finishing second in the total net score of foursome event was the team of Wash Dayton, Hank Kacpura, Bob Herre and Bob Erbach with 279. L.C. Bollinger, Tom Newmeyer, Hal Ricbcschl and Charlie Mahony placed third with a round of 284. The Calabash Veterans will play this Friday at Bricrwood. Show time is 7:30 a.m. Brierwood Ladies Mary Schaack fired a gross 79 to lead the first flight in the Bricrwood Ladies Golf Association tournament last Tuesday. Other first flight winners were Ann Causer with net 68 and Toni lossi with net 69. Ginger Sugruc and Lois Bcato tied for low putts with 28 each. In the second flight. Ruth Linder had the low gross of 95 and Ginny Campbell had the low net of 66. Maureen Farley had the second low net with 69. Marge Harper, Linder and Campbell tied for low putts with 31 apiece. Dee Pratt led the third flight with the low gross of 96. She also had low putts with 28. Low net winners were Irene Bryant with 65 and Alicc Micali with 70. Top finishers in the fourth flight included Louise Blizzard with gross 100. Betty Blough and Lou Akers tied for low net with scores of 65. Akers and Ginny Anzclone tied for low putts with 32. Beato chipped in at the first hole and birdied the 11th, while Farley had a chip-in at the ninth and birdied the third. Irene Bryant also chipped in at the first. Also making birdies were Pratt at the first, Sugrue at the fourth, Schaack at the sixth and Peg Sawyer and Linder at the seventh. Local Youth Wins Junior Golf Event Todd Wilson of Sunset Beach shot 73 to win the Myrtle Beach Junior Golf Association's Ed Martin Memorial Tournament played on the silver course at Bay Tree Plantation. Also, Wilson recently teamed with Jonathan York, head pro of the Maples course at Sea Trail Plan tation, to tic for second in the 1993 Carolinas PGA Pro-Junior Cham pionship at The Cardinal Country Club in Greensboro. Winning the men's division were John Crane, Bob Flaccavento, Bob Flaccavento Jr. and Ewart Lockyer. The tournament raised $2,691 for the literacy council . Mount Olive, Calvary Lead Coed League 11 A\l!- - ? " ? ? -------- Mount Olive and Calvary lead their respective divisions in the Brunswick Baptist Association Coed Softball League with three weeks re maining in the regular season. Mount Olive, a 13-3 winner over Shell Point Saturday night, im proved to 12-1 on the season and has clinched first place in Division 2. Town Creek is sccond with a 7-6 record. In Division 1, Calvary leads the race for first place with an U-2 mark. Calvary defeated Southport "B" 17-9 Saturday to maintain a one-game lead in the division. The second place team, Gospel Center-Brunswick Islands, beat Town Creek 18-6 Saturday to im prove to 10-3.
