BY DOK; RU'ITKR
The inside-outside combination ot
Terry Dowe .mil Icka Cox led North
Mvrllc Beach lo a 54-40 victory
over West Brunswick in a non-con
ference high school girls' basketball
game Saturday in Shallotte.
Cox nailed three three-pointers in
the first four minutes and finished
with a game-high 20 points. Dowe,
the Lady Chiefs' center, scored most
of her 14 points in the paint.
freshman Donicia Moody scored
13 points and senior Nicole Norris
added 11 to lead West Brunswick,
which trailed the whole game and
never got closer than six points in
the second half.
"We knew it would be a lough
game," North Myrtle Beach Coach
Frank Moorehead said. "We got
blown out here last year. We knew
we would have to play hard for four
quarters."
The Lady Chiefs came out firing
as Cox drained three three-pointers
from the right corner to give her
team a quick 9-3 lead.
Moorehead said Cox's hot shoot
ing was important because Dowe
and backup center Kurtura Berkley
were in foul trouble for much of the
game.
"She knocked in a couple threes
right at the start and that really
helped her confidence," Moorehead
said. "West Brunswick has some
good perimeter shooters and they
trapped us well."
North Myrtle Beach led 13-5 after
one quarter and used a 6-0 run early
in the second period to take a 19-7
lead with 0:45 left in the first half
