Unknown to the , crew of an oil tanker, the carcass: of a 40 foot whale, which the tanker , had struck off Cape Hatteras became wedged across the ship's bow, just below the water line. . When the boat docked in Baltimore harbor, the veryH dead leviathian of the sea floated away, thereby becoming a menace to I navigation. After, repeated unsuc- cessful towings to sea, several offers for the carcass were received, one from a rendering-business who would turn it into soap, and another from a fertilizer manufacturing plant who could dispose of the huge mammal.
