To escape tne last plague of death certain religious ceremonies had to be observed ty the Israelites as if Jehovah was giv ing that people a final test beroie their departure. (3) The religious ideas of tiie Egyptians were assailed; the Nile was sacred, one of their dieties had tne head of a frog, darkness overcome the sun-god, Ka, and out of the worship ped soil came disease and affliction. (4) Certain Egyptians were pro tected from the evil effects of the seventh plague, that of hail. "Re that feared the Lord among the ser vants of Pharoah" was warned and allowed to escape this punishment. Were there followers of Jehovas among the Egyptians? The Israelites were given particu lar instructions as to how they should avoid the terrific toll of death in this last plague. The passover lamb must be killed and eaten, but that private religious ceremony would be insufficient. A public profession of Jehovah must be made, the blood of the sacrificed animal must be ssprink led on the door and posts. GOLDEN TEXT: "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glor ify me." Psalm 50:15. Lesson Text: Exodus 5:22-23; 6:1-7; 12:51. In order to refresh our minds, fol lowing the break in this series ot lessons which occurred last Sunday, let's review a bit. Moses, having accepted the divine call to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt leaves Midian. Meet ing his brother Aaron by the sacred that i mountain, he performs the three mir acles to confirm his authority, name ly the rod changing into a serpent, the hand turned leprous and then healthy, and the bloody water. The two brothers journey into the Hebrew colony and at a public gath ering reveal their mission and per form their wonders to persuade the people. In this they were successful, the Israelites hearing the news glad ly and turning to a renewed worship of Jehovah. While leading the peo ple,. Moses took them into his confi dence in the hopes of securing a full and loyal support. Various appeals to Pharoah then followed. At first the plea of tne two octogenarians were rejected and the taskmasters were instructed to make the burden of labor heavier upon the workers. The Israelites, forecasting their fickleness through, the ages, turned upon Moses with recrimination because his efforts had only brought them harder tasks. Again the two brothers appeared before Pharaoh, and with their mir acles sought to induce him to allow the departure of the children of Jacob from Goshen.
