Pirates Defeat Cubs The fighting Pirates of Perquimans County High School spotted the cubs of Fredrick Military Academy, Portsmouth, Virginia, a touchdown in the first quarter and then stormed from behind to take a lead they never relinquished. The Red Cubs of Fredrick took advantage of Perquimans young Bucs who were guilty of several costly infractions. The derangement on the part of Perquimans enabled the cubs to spring a man loose behind defensive right halfback, Edward Harrington for a touch down pass. The try for the extra point failed and the boys from Portsmouth kicked off to Perquimans. The young Bucs lost little time moving from their own 40 yard line to the cubs two on the passing arm of quar terback Finnard Tillet and the slashing runs of Joseph Mc Clenny, Kenneth Bateman and Archie Ferebee with Kit White hitting pay dirt from 2 yards out. Shifty Joe McClenny put Perquimans ahead with a driving run around right end for a 2 point conversion. With Perquimans leading 8-6 the game was punctured by numerous penalties on both teams. This coupled with fumbles- and missed assignments caused the Bucs to nurse a slim lead at halftime. The third quarter was an encore of the second as both teams were unable to score. However, the complexion of the game changed, when ailing Lee Godfrey attempted to punt for Perquimans on fourth down. The punt was blocked on the Bucs 25 yard line. With less than 8 minutes showing on the clock. the cubs swept Perquimans right end going down to the 5 and then moved to the Perquimans 1 yard line. With fourth down and a yard from goal, the red cubs moved in for the kill. It was then the aroused Pirates, led by 245 lb. tackle, John Wood rose to the occasion and stopped the cubs for no gain. The Pirates then took over on their own 1 yard line and on a handoff from . Tillett, Bateman blasted for 8 yards.' McClenny got 4 on the next down and Perquimans was on the move. Mixing his plays beautifully. riUett on the 45 yard line of the cubs with a third down and 1 yard situation, hit right end Milvin Lilly in stride on the 10 ana tne larucy end legged it in standing up. Fullback Archie Ferebee bulled his way over for the two noint conversion. This ended the scoring for the evening, but Fredrick nearlv scored again as one of their fleet ends had the Bucs Don Keaton beat by ten yards on a pass play, but droooed the ball. From then on the pirates made adjustments ana snuiied out the cubs rally. Friday the Bucs go to Plymouth to take on the Vikings. Meets Thursday The regular monthly meeting of Post 126 will be held Thurs day, ', October l at 8 p.m. at the Post home. Commander Stallings requests a large at- tendence be on hand in order to make final arrangements for the 300th Anniversary celebration of Perquimans County. L ZT 1 yes. Boots will be very popular this winter. They seem to be compliments to the longer skirts and coats. One lovely dress I saw a few days ago was of tan wool with panels from the waistline outlined in one inch wide cream colored wool. We haven't seen many midis on the street as yet but most skirts are down about the knees-probably the hems of shorter skirts have been let out as far as they can be low ered.
