Eure, fund chairman. People not contacted who would like to contribute should call Mrs. Joseph Rogerson or Mrs. Marion Swindell ' and someone will be glad to pick it up. Eure reminds the citizens of Perquimans County that only the unit girls and their parents are authorized to solicit for these monies. They in turn will give the donor an official receipt. Citizens approached for funds by anyone other than those authorized, should contact Sheriff Julian Broughton immediately. P AAAllTAfl Promotions ri Sam Hourmouzis, Jr., son of Mrs. Sam Hourmouzis, Sr. and the late Mr. Hourmouzis of Hertford, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant in the Medical Corp. , Sgt. Hourmouzis is stationed at Fort Eustis, Va. River For Debs & Moms of Rocky Mount at their river home in Hertford on Monday with a day of sun and fun on the Perquimans River. f There were 24 debs, mothers, orothers, sisters and friends who had picnic lunches tied in gay bandanas which were the favors for each guest. While lunch was eaten, they toured the scenic river on house boats viewing the spot where the song, "Carolina Moon," was believed to have been written, going through Thousand Islands and giving the visitors the thrill of going though an open bridge. After lunch, the girls and their friends sailed, Swam, canoed, water skied, sunned and ate homemade jce cream. Some 741 degrees were conferred by ASU Acting Chancellor Dr. Cratis, Williams at the 10 a.m. ceremony. Some 369 seniors receiv- ed the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, ' Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Science in Business ' Administration degrees. Graduate degrees, including the Master of Arts, Master of Science, Certificate of Advanced Study, Science Specialist and Education Specialist, were conferred to 372 students. Two ASU students delivere d the commencement address. Kent R. Oehm, a graduating senior from Dumont, N.J.; defended the arts as an important and necessary part of education; and Jonathan B. Pierce, a master's degree graduate from Asheville, discussed education as a tool for political effectiveness. ATTENDS WORKSHOP Miss Suzy Stanton, president of the Hertford Business and Professional Women's Club, attended a president's workshop in Tarboro Sunday. Presidents from all the clubs in the ' Tenth District attended for the purpose of formulating plans for the fall. "'-V x'' .' WOODMEN WILL HOLD LOG ROLLING AUGUST 26: The annual Log Rolling of the Woodmen of the World in ; the Tidewater Association, which embraces the counties east of Rocky Mount, will be held in Hertford on August 26 when' upwards of eight hundred members of the organization will be guest of Albemarle Camp No. 463 of which Roy S. Dr. Whedbee is a native of Perquimans. For many years he has practiced his profession of dentistry ii Suffolk. He has, however, always remained in close touch with Hertford, visiting his sisters here often and coming over to look after the farms he owns in the county. For long years after this period which Dr. Whedbee recalls Nags Head could only be visited by boat.
