C, Thursday, October 2, WS ' Bethel-Snug Harbor Community News J By FREDA NELSON Nine acteens vere crowned queens in mission aetion during a candlelight ceremony at Bethel Baptist Church Sunday night. The group presented individual ways of service and achievement during the coronation. Mrs. Kay Lane, leader, conferred the crowns as each candidate koelt to receive it., Mrs. Lane admonished the girls to work for higher awards and reminded them that "a crown does not make a queen but is a symbol of living a queenly life." Receiving the crowns were, Sherry Bunch, Vivian Drawdy, ( June Fleetwood, Dianne ' Harris, Peggy Harris, Claudia Lane, Karen Lane, Sandra Lane, and Julie Simmons, After the coronation, Mrs. Janie Proctor commended Mrs. Lane on her achievements and outstanding work in the field of missions. It was a weekend of pleasure cruising recently for Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thompson of Snug Harbor who took their boat the "Inge-Alex" to Deep Creek, Virginia. They traveled the OUTSTANDING PLAYER Oliver Felton, a captain of the Pirates and outstanding player of the 1974 team was voted the Outstanding Player Award winner in the East Carolina William & Mary game played recently. Felton, who is a freshman, is starting as middle guard for the East Carolina Pirates this fall. James River to Jamestown Island a'la the early colonists. " ' Happy brithday wishes go to Mrs. Dolna Mae Proctor who had a brithday anniversary ori October 1. Mrs. Proctor is the teacher of the Mattie Macon Sunday School Class at Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Elaine H. Phillips returned home on Friday via United Airlines from Kalama, Washington, where she spent three weeks visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Linda, and their five children. The M.J. Kolbacks- of Virginia Beach, Va., spent several days last week at their cottage in Snug Harbor. Word has been received of the death of Jacob (Jack) Epstien of Norfolk, Va. The late Mr. Epstien and his wife Claudia are property owners in Snug Harbor. Sympathy is extended to Ms. Epstien and other relatives., Mr, and Mrs. M.E. Nelson of Snug Harbor spent four days last week visiting relatives in Blacksburg and Richmond, Virginia. This week commemorates the 75th birthday anniversary of North Carolina's famous author Thomas Clayton Wolfe. Mr. Wolfe was born in Asheville, N.C., October 3, 1900 died September 15, 1938. , The cosmos and the calendula have both been named as the flower for October. The special gem is the opal or tourmaline. MEETING HELD- There was a meeting held in the Perquimans County Courthouse Wednesday night, October' i, at 7:30 p.m. The purpose of the meeting was to organize a Perquimans County Republican Club. Mrs. Addie Keegan was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Doward Jones in Plymouth on Sunday. f Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Hudson and daughter spent the weekend in South Hill, Va. with Mr. and Mrs. Billy Hudson. . Archie Chappell has returned home after being a patient in the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Hurley Hofler were guests of Mr, and Mrs. Don Holman at Virginia Beach, Va. last Sunday. David ; Riddick has returned to his home ; in Belvidere after being a patient in Norfolk General Hospital. Clarence, Chappell, III, has returned to his home in Belvidere after undergoing surgery at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hoskins and family of Everetts were guests of Mrs. C,C. Winslow on Sunday. Cmdr. Edward Griffin is on a hunting trip in Canada.
