At right, Irene Meads and Betty Hare prepare to go out and advertise some of the used clothing for sale. Jaycettes Hold General Store The Perquimans County Jaycettes sponsored a General Store on October 4 with the proceeds going to the Perquimans County Held at the Episcopal Parish House in Hertford, items for sale included used clothing, homemade arts and crafts, baked goods, Marrhinu Unit. A Koal of cokesandusedfunuture.The $200 was surpassed and a members 0f the marching to the unit. 01111 manned a babysitting service for shopping mothers. Members of the Belvidere-Chappell Hill Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary also brought several crafts to sell which were left from their bazaar, generously donating some of the proceeds to the marching unit. Youth Day Resolution I, Bill Cox, Mayor, Town of Hertford, N.C., hereby proclaim observance of the week of October 19-26 as National Business Women's Week, and in so doing, recognize the Hertford Business and Professional Women's Club. Whereas, the Business and Professional Women's Club is a club for all business and professional women, the group is small in number, and, Whereas, a large part of the population in Perquimans County are working women, and, Whereas, their goals are to improve and to beautify our town and community, and, Whereas, they sponsor the Candy Stripers, the Health Careers Club, and the Loan Closet, to aid all in need; . The Perquimans County Jaycees are having its Youth Day Saturday Oct. 25 at the Perquimans High School Football Field. All young men between the ages of 8-17 are invited to participate in this event. There will be 3 age groups for competition (8-11; 12-14; and 15-17). Registration will be at 12:30. Certificates will be given to each winner in each division. The overall winner in each age group will be given a basketball. Activities will include basketball, football, and baseball activities and tract events. All boys are urged to come on out to the football field and enjoy the fun. The members of the Hertford Business and Professional Women's Club would like to recognize all working women and to invite and encourage them to join their organization and to join in their recognition of National Business Women's Week. By DANNY MEADS Last year the Student Council was reinstated at' PCHS. .They brought many activities back to the school. One such activity was Homecoming. This year Homecoming proves to be just as exciting as those of past years. Oc tober 20-24 has been designated as Homecoming Week. The Student Council activities committee plann ed the following activities for each day of the week. On Monday, the student uun ciT sponsored Crazy Day. Students mismatched socks, shoes, earrings, clothes, etc. Tuesday, the Student Coun cil sponsored Hat Day. Students tried to find the most unusual hats possible. For the second year, the An nual Staff sponsored Fifties Day. Students tried to dress as near like teenagers of the fifties as possible. On Thursday, Spirit, Day was held. Everyone donned the school colors, black and gold. . On Friday, Homecoming will reach its climax. At 4 p.m. there will be a parade. Different clubs and organizations will sponsor floats centered around the bicentennial. The co-queen and princess nominees will ride in the parade. The Mar ching Unit will also par ticipate. After the parade, the Student Council will sponsor a fish fry on the PCHS campus. The football game will begin at 8 p.m. with Per quimans playing Gumberry. At half time, the co-queens and princess will be announced. After the game there will be a dance held in the high school gym. It will be limited to students and their dates only. Music will be provided by Drew Fox of Virginia Beach, Va. The Homecoming queen contestants are: Joyce Winslow, Bridget Dale, Cin dy Gossage, Paulette Gallop, Cheryl Walton, and Nena Griswould. They were nominated from the Senior class. The co-princesses will be chosen from the underclassmen. Contestants are! Junior class: Beverly Barnhill and Carol Skinner; Sophomore: Sharon Riddick and Cheryl Jones; Freshmen: Patti Riddick and Leola Jones. Students at PCHS will vote on Friday morning. . YA'LL COME! In The News CARD CLUBS MEET Mrs. G.W. Barbee was hostess to her bridge club on Tuesday afternoon at her home on Grubb Street. Those playing were Mrs. T.L. Jessup, Mrs. John Coston, Mrs. J.T. Biggers, Mrs. H.C. Stokes, Miss Thelma Elliott, Miss Mary Sumner, Miss Ruby White, and the hostess. - Miss Sumner won the high score prize. A sweet course was served. - v- Mrs. S.P. Jessup enter tained her bridge club Thursday afternoon at her home on Front Street. Those playing were Mrs. H.Av Whitley, Mrs. T. W. Wilson, . Mrs. S.M. Whedbee, Mrs. C.A. Davenport, Mrs. C.R. Holmes, Mrs. J.H. Newbold, Mrs. W.G. Edwards, and Miss Louise Chalk. Mrs. Whitley was high score winner. A sweet course was served. Mrs. C.E. Cannon' was hostess to her rook club Wednesday afternoon at her home on Pennsylvania Avenue. Mr, and Mrs. Dean Britt and daughter, Joy, of Newport News, Va. were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fen ton Britt on Sunday. . Mrs. Tim Baker and son, Corey, of Fayetteville were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mac White and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Baker at Belvidere lor-several days last week. Joe Campbell visited R.B. Kirby in. Norfolk, Va. on Friday. He also, visited Ker mit Kirby, who is a surgery patient in Norfolk General Hospital. . , Mr and Mrs. Webb Gould and sons of Viginia Beach, Va. were guests of C.L. Dail on Sunday. Carl Britt of Charlotte was a weekend guest of Mr. and Mrs. Felton Britt.
