Mrs. Helen Sawyer, president, presided during the business session. The program which was related to missions in the Philippines was presented by Mrs. Clara Perry. Members present were, Mrs. Thelma Ap pleton, Mrs. Grace Blan chard, Mrs. Ruby Harrell, Mrs. Ruth Mansfield, Mrs. Helen Sawyer, Mrs. Clara Perry, Mrs. Lula Mae Ward, Mrs. Madelyn Long, and Mrs. Lucille White. Delicious frosted cake and coffee was served by the hostess during the social hour. The Christmas meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Grace Blan chard. Enjoying the fish dinner and program put on by the Former Marines Commemorate Anniversary Sixteen former Marines met on November. 10th in Hertford to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps. A dutch steak supper was held at the American Legion Post Home, Warrant Officer Ernest W. Sutton presented a pro- gram with information on the present status of the .Marine Corps and Comman tdant L.B. Wilson. Mrs. Elaine Phillips spent more time recently in Cary, N.C. with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Needham Woodlief, and a brother, Bryce D. Holleman. V arbor ews School Class of Bethel Bap tist Church met in the home of Mrs. Nellie Davis on Sun day for their 5th Sunday : visitation to a shut-in. The lesson was taught by Mrs. Dolna Proctor, teacher. Participants in the Hert ford Christmas Parade from Snug Harbor are asked to meet at the Club House parking lot at 2 p.m. on Friday. They will be joined at the Perquimans High School by students who will complete the floats. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. in Hertford; so, come on out and enjoy the fun. Its been said, "Everybody Loves a Parade!" Mr. and Mrs. Harold Thompson attended Bandon Chapel Worship Service at Arrowhead Beach, Chowan County, on Sunday. Enjoying Thanksgiving dinner with Mr. and Mrs. T. Julian Long were Mrs. Long's mother, Mrs. W.B. White of Edenton, and Reverend and Mrs. Robert C. White and their four children from Aulander, N.C. Other members of the immediate family were also present. Congratulations go to Mr. A.T. Lewis who won 7th place in the Rock Fish Rodeo last week in the Elizabeth City Jaycee spon sored event. The' Bethel Ruritan's December meeting will be held on Thursday, December 11, at the Com munity Building. Installa tion of officers will take place at this time. The din ner will be at 6:30 p.m. with the busii ess and installation following. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will find the Ladies of the Bethel Firemens' Aux iliary attending the Bazaar which will be held at the Fire Station in Bethel. If you haven't already begun your Christmas shopping, then this will surely be a good place to start. Drawing for the Raffle prizes will take place at 2 p.m. The holly is the special flower of December. It is us ed all over the world in this celebration. The turquoise is the December gem. 7 N J i F.-v hill M I l.t p 'L R ITS BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS - Town employes recently began putting up the Christmas decorations along Hertford's major streets in preparation for the upcoming Holiday Season. The Christmas lights will be turned on during tomorrow's Christmas Parade and the arrival of Santa. (Newbern photo) Mrs. DeBois To Work With Reading Mrs. Clara DeBois has been employed by the Per quimans County Schools to work in the reading pro gram at Hertford Grammar School. Her employment is an expansion of the ESEA Title 1 program. Additional funds have been received locally to allow for this ex pansion of the program to the level of last year. Mrs. DeBois is a graduate of East Carolina University where she majored in elementary education and minored in reading. She began work on Monday. Her responsibilities include working in the reading lab with Hertford Grammar students in grades four, five, and six. School officials describe her as "well qualified and enthusiastic."
