Assembly of North Carolina has call ed a State election to be held In each County of the State of North Carolina on Tuesday, March 23, 197t at which the question of the issuance of $43,267,000 State of North Carolina; State Institutions of Higher Educa tion; Capital Improvement Bonds will be submitted to the qualified voters of the State of North Carolina, which question shall be voted on. The issuance of the State Institu tions of Higher Education Capital Improvement ; Bonds has been authorized by Chapter 854 of the 1975 Session Laws of North Carolina, sub ject to a favorable vote of a malorlty of the qualified voters of the State who shall vote on the question in said election. The polls for said election will be open from 6:30 A.M. to 7:30 P.M.J provided, however, that at voting places at which voting machines are used the County Board of Elections - may permit the polls to remain open until 8:30p.m. ' , . Absentee ballots will be allowed in said election. In accordance with the general laws of the State of North Carolina, the times and places for registration and the names of the elections of ficials will' be determined by the authorized officers of the County and ' Information with reference theretq and as to the location of the voting places may be obtained from the County Board of Elections. V V V - V 'A Thru Feb. 7th . 358 i.. , t; Perquimans Response No. 4 4 rT ' The Perquimans County Library recognizes that it has a responsibility to all the people young, old, students, business and pro fessional men and women and especially to the han dicapped of all ages. With this responsibility in mind the library has ac quired a number of books with very large print. These books come in a wide range of subjects ranging from a Perry Mason detective story to a Dicken's classic, in cluding books of poetry and philosophy and several good modern novels. Others may : be borrowed from the State Library. In addition to the large print books the Perquimans Library has a great number of light romantic novels with print a little larger than the average book but not quite as large as the "Big-Print". If any person wishes help in selecting or acquiring these books they will get it by calling the library 426 5219. The librarian on duty or the bookmobile librarian will see that the need is fill ed. A final note to the visually handicapped. Don't let your poor eyesight keep from you the pleasure of reading. The Perquimans County Library is there to help everyone. In The News Mrs. Callie Bussott of Nor folk, Va. was a guest of her mother, Mrs. C.B. Stallings, on Tuesday. Eric Cahoon has returned home after being a patient at Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill for 10 days. Mrs. Addie Keegan was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Doward Jones in Plymouth on Sunday. ' Mrs. Don Holman and sons, Don and Billy, of 'i Virginia Beach, Va. spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Hurley Hoffler. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bass and children of Virginia Beach, Va. were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy White. Mr. and Mrs. Mac White, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Bun ch, Miss Lisa Bunch, and Miss Cindy Smith were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Winslow in Chesapeake, Va. on Saturday. Mrs. Tim Baker and son, Corey, spent the weekend in Fayetteville. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Brewer visited relatives in Courtland, Va. during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Perry visited Mrs. Perry's mother, Mrs. Martha Barnette, at John H. Kerr Dam, Palmer Point, Va. during the weekend. Miss Elliott was high score winner for the club and Mrs. Winslow won the high score guest prize. A sweet course was served. By FREDA NELSON The Durants Neck Ruritan Club a communi ty service organization was organized twenty-seven years ago. It is among the oldest Ruritan clubs in Nor th Carolina. Ruritan first took root in a small Virginia town by the name of Holland in the year 1928, and has grown from the Tidewater area to the foothills of the Rockies; from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. Ruritan has become the largest rural organization in America with membership composed of farmers, business and professional men, and other concerned citizens in the community. Bobby Eure is the im mediate president of the Durants Neck Club. Serving with him in the various of fices are, Charlie Raymond Cartwright, vice president; Lawrence Spivey, secretary; and, Jim Robin son, treasurer. The present roster boosts a club membership of thirty-five. Although the age range is from 35 to 40 years, there is no restriction of age limit. All ages are welcome to join. The club meets monthly on the 3rd Wednesday at 7 p.m. Meals are served by community organizations. The purpose of Durants Neck Club is to serve the rural community through community projects. Recent projects have been: Replac ing a roof on an elderly citizen's home; and the club voted recently to support ex- TONITE THRU SAT.
