In the absence of the president and vice president, Mrs. Edith Thompson presided. -The meeting opened with the singing of "America the Beautiful." Mrs. , Lenna Griffin led the devotions. Mrs. Paige Underwoodt home extension agent, gave a demonstration on skirt making. She explained "to knee or not to knee." She also demonstrated the use of the seamstress iron filled with a salt solution to remove marks of old hem lines. Each one responded to the roll call with a recipe. For show and tell, Mrs. Cur ran showed the ring she had made in the Crafts class; Mrs. Underwood showed her creative stitchery; Mrs. Griffin discussed the magazine "Tar Heel Homemakers." A sym posium on the metric system will be held by Mrs. Curran for all who are in terested. After repeating the Collect, Mrs. Marine Long and Mrs. Lenna Griffin served refreshments. Mrs. Long led a game using ab breviations of States. The next meeting will be held in the Community Building, July 9, at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Lula Mae Ward and Mrs. Clara Perry will be hostesses. Senior Camp Week is now ibeing held at the Roanoke "Bible College in Elizabeth City. Several visitors from the College were present at the Bethlehem Church of Christ services on Sunday. The Bethel Baptist Church concluded its annual vaca tion Bible school Friday " with a picnic for students and workers. Mrs. Nelda Perry, superintendent, ex pressed appreciation for cooperation of the workers . who made the school a suc cessful one. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. William Stallings this week is Mrs. F. D, Morris of Gastonia, N. C, Mrs. Stall ings' mother. Mr. and Mrs. -William Cor prew spent the weekend with the Carl Barber family of Virginia Beach, Va. Weekend guests of the William Stallings were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Miller from Morganton, N. C, Mrs. William H. Perry has returned home from Fort Worth, Texas after visiting her sister, Mrs. Mable Mills of Fort Worth who is recovering from a recent illness. Mr. and Mrs. John Lavez zo and three children of Clarksville, Ga. are visiting with Mrs. Lavezzo's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Julian Long. Mrs. M. E. Nelson enter tained her bridge club with a luncheon Friday. Mrs. Goldie Hooper won high score and the hostess was second. Congratulations to Linda R. Evans who is an Honor Roll student at Meredith College, Raleigh, N.C. Linda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Lloyd Evans. . The Snug Harbor Triangle Club will hold its annual bazaar on the Clubhouse lawn on July 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Ladies Auxiliary of Bethel Volunteer Firemen will meet Thursday (tonight) with Mrs. Margaret Mayfield at 8 o'clock for their regular monthly meeting. The Snug Harbor Civic League will meet Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Clubhouse. The Snug Harbor Chapel is seeking volunteers to help with digging the foundation HERTFORD, N.C. Phillips and children from Kalama, Wash, visited here. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Long attended the Lawrence Welk Show at Scope during their performance in Nor folk, Va. last week. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. John C. Phillips, Jr. and their new son last week was Mrs. Phillips' sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Deller of Biloxi, Miss. Sr. Citizens Hold Meet The Perquimans County Senior Citizens Club met May 18 at the Elizabeth City Marina Restaurant for lunch with 14 present. After enjoying a delicious meal the members decided to have a covered dish lun cheon at the June 21st meeting. The group will meet at 12 noon in the American Legion Building in Hertford and everyone is asked to bring a covered dish. - Athenian writer Menander said, "We live, not as we wish, but as we can." Brownies Graduate Graduation ceremonies for Brownie Girl Scouts be ing promoted to Junior Level Girl Scouts were held at Charles Creek Park in Elizabeth City on June 5. The ceremony was held jointly with the Elizabeth City Neighborhood troops. A picnic supper was enjoyed by the girls and their families. Fly-Up wings were presented to the following girls from their leader Esther Weiner: Rene Hunter, Melody Barr, Alice White, Katie Peal and Melissa Corprew.
