Scout Leaders Needed Mims Presents - . WANTED Girl Scout Leaders and Assistants. Does your v daughter and ber friends rwish they could be Girl Scouts? The Girl SCout Program is not a girls' club. It is a pro gram with a purpose based on ideals and a code of con duct. The purpose of the Girl Scout Movement is "Help ing Girls Grow" towards becoming self-realized; courageous, compassionate, concerned and committed mature women. There are five age levels: Pixie: ages 5 and 6 in Kindergarten; Brownie: ages 7, S and 9 in Grades 1, 2 and 3; Junior: ages 10, 11 and 12 in Grades 4, 5 and 6; Cadette: ages 13, 14 and 15 in Grades 7, 8, and 9; , Senior: ages 16, 17 and 18 in Grades 10, 11 and 12. ' ' Rules for acceptance and participation in all pro grams of the Girl Scout council of Greater Tidewater are the same for everyone without regard to . race, color or national origin. Highway Patrol was the guest speaker at the monthly , meeting of the Hertford Business and Pro fessional Women's Club Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Ann Young. Speaking on rape, Mims : showed a film entitled LADY BEWARE which was narrated by Shirley Jones. The four basics of personal safety were illustrated by using the letters of the word SAFE: "Secure" home and car by having proper locks, etc.; "Avoid" all dangerous places and dress which will tempt an attacker; "Flee" when you sense you are in danger; and, "Engage" your attacker in a fight if he is not armed by screaming, using weapons carried in your purse or hitting in vulnerable places. Following the film, Mims demonstrated several sim ple ways in which a woman can protect herself and urged each woman to keep a plan of action in mind using the four basics of personal safety as illustrated. He stated, "That the key to per sonal safety is your state of , mind and the determination to survive." During the business meeting presided over by Mrs. Bonnie D. White, presi dent, the club voted to make a donation to the BPW Foun dation in memory of Mrs. Dora T. Riddick, voted to join the Museum of the Albemarle and heard com mittee reports. Mrs. Brenda Hollowell will be in charge of the BPW float in the Christmas parade. Special guests were Mrs. Freda Nelson and Mrs. MarieS. Elliott. Weathers, Ex tension Farm Management Specialist, N.C. State University, will lead the discussion on partial budgeting, Partial Budgeting is a farm management tool used to make either-or decisions. Examples of such decisions are whether to sell feeder pigs or top hogs, whether to dry corn or sell field run and whether to purchase new machinery or custom hire. Steve C.
