For Your Information Dear friends, . If we look about us - all the homes, buildings, vehicles, clothing, food - all has been produced by the mental and physical labor of our fellowmen. Scientists tell us that such constructive human occupation is essential to health and well beingThis is reason enough to honor the productive members of society on Labor Day. Sincerely, SWINDELL FUNERAL HOME HERTFORD, N C. Diamond Center of Elizabeth City , A CHRISTIAN LIFE STYLE Titus 2:14 Paul admonished Titus to be faithful in the proclamation of sound doctrine to all of his listeners, many of whom had been subjected to false teachings and had been living in an : environment of gross immorality and debauchery. He wrote about the behavior which is becoming in the various groups of believers. Since the older men occupied positions , of influence, more was expected of them than of young and immature1 men. Calmness of mind, seriousness, temperance, spiritual insight, orthodoxy, love and patience are rightfully expected of older men. Paul exhorted Titus to urge the older women to exemplify the highest type of behavior. He specifically ruled out such things as gossip, slander, and imbibing alcoholic beverages. -, Titus was told to teach the older women to instruct young women to be discreet, chaste, and devoted to their husbands and their children. Titus was admonished to teach young men to exercise self-control and to practice self-discipline. Not only Titus, but every minister is to be an example for 1 the flock over which the Holy Spirit had made him the overseer. If he is to influence others as he should, he must practice what he preaches. His teaching must be con firmed by his example. He must be a pattern of good words v for both the saved and the unsaved to see. This is vital to his success and usefulness in the ministry. It is truly wonderful when the lives of Christians, both young and old, are consistent, exemplary, and above reproach. One cannot be too careful about his life and his teaci Jng. When one's life is exemplary, and his teaching is true, sincere, and reverent, his opposers are disarmed. One., who calls himself a Christian, should live in such as exemplary manner that he will be able to silence his enemies by the soundness of the doctrines which he teaches and the consistency of the life which he lives. Colossians 3:12-17 The Holy Spirit, through Paul, here gave some pertinent and relevant instructions as to how Christians should con duct themselves in all areas and relationships of life. He exhorted individual Christians to disrobe themselves of their sinful past, and to put on the virtues of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, long suffering, forbearance and forgiveness. The outer garment, which is to cover all of these beautiful and precious virtues and hold them together is love, "the bond of perfectness." Paul appealed to the believers to let the priceless posses sion of peace, which they had received as a gift from the Lord, rule in their hearts. Christ's legacy of peace is the most precious gifts, an inheritance which the world can neither give nor take away. Peace must be allowed to act as an umpire or to arbitrate in all spheres of the Christian's life. Paul admonished the cultivation of a thankful spirit. Such a spirit pleases the Lord, enriches the lives of those who observe it, and greatly benefits those who possess it. For mercies received and blessings enjoyed, let us thank God with the gratitude of our hearts, the praises of our lips, and the obedience of our lives. Paul admonished Christians to let the "word of Christ" find hospitality and permanent residence in their hearts, . thereby influencing and controlling their loves. This "word of Christ" not only refers Jo what our Lord said, but it in cludes the entire body of truth concerning Him which was. given by inspired writers and recorded in the Scriptures., , The supreme purpose of all Christian living, working, and' , praising .should be that Christ may be honored and -glorified. , V .
