Library Update By WAYNE HENRITZE HOLIDAY SCHEDULE The Perquimans County Library and all other libraries in the Pettigrew Regional Library System will be closed from Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26. No Bookmobile Run ? The bookmobile run that would normally be made to the Bethel and Harvey's Point area will be delayed until its next normal run in three weeks on Jan. 13 due to the holiday schedule. Books will automati cally be renewed until then. No Story Hour ? There will not be a story hour on Friday, Dec. 23 due to the holiday schedule. NEW BOOKS Black Orchidby Nicholas Meyer is a novel set in Brazil's vast 19th century rubber plantations in which an adven turer tries to smuggle rubber trees out of Manaus, the opulent capital of trade. Shall We Tell the President by Jeffrey Archer involves an assasination plot against President Edward Kennedy in 1983 and FBI efforts to uncover the plotters in time. Jackie Onassis quit the publisher as a result of this book. Beggarman, Tbiefby Irwin Shaw continues the Jordache sage begun in Rich Man, Poor Man. Avalanche Express by Colin Forbes is a suspense novel . involving efforts by NATO spies to rescue an extremely valuable agent and spirit him out of Russia by train. Attachments by Judith Rossner, the author of Looking for Mr. Goodbar, is a novel in which two women of opposite types-marry a pair of Siamese twins. Arrest Sitting Ball by Douglas C. Jones is a novelized version of attempts made to arrest Sitting Bull and thus head off an Indian rebellion on the badly managed reserva tions in the wake of the Custer massacre. Doomsday: The Science of Catastrophe provides the odds on a wide range of catastrophes ranging from earth quakes to the explosion of the sun. The author contends that it is really not that orderly a universe. The Japanese by Edwin Reischauer, a former am bassador, is an account of the Japanese as a country and as a people. 14 Playing God: Getic Engineering and the Manipulation of Life is a survey of trends and issues in an increasingly con troversial field.
