BEES VISIT BANK-The Busy Bees 4-H Club made a tour of the Peoples' Bank in Hertford Friday. Ben Berry, one of the employees, showed the group how the bank operates. (Staff photo by Tony Jor dan) Area Coordinator Chosen to Attend Iowa Convention Carlotta Jordan, Coor dinator of the Aging Pro gram for ARPDC, has been chosen by a National Screening Committee as the State of North Carolina's delegate to a National Strategy Con ference to be held in Des Moines, Iowa, on January 28 through February 2, 1979. Miss Jordan will be joining delegates from each of the remaining 49 states in a week long work session to develop strategies which will im prove the delivery of human services to this nation's rural elderly population. The Elizabeth City resi dent will be put into one of seven work groups to ad dress the problems en countered by rural agen cies in the following areas: transporation, nutrition, housing, health, outreach/ acceptability/and ac cessibility of services, in come/employment, and administration/manage ment and training. Throughout the week long ' session, delegates and alternates will spend a con siderable amount of time in their assigned areas to identify issues and pro blems and develop com phrehensive strategies to deal with these problems. The ultimate goal of this Conference will be the development of con solidated strategies in pro gramatic areas which will be of assistance in address ing rural issues at the national, state and local level. The Conference results will be distributed throughout the National Aging Network to help rural providers improve, coordinate, and con solidate existing programs Conference will also pro vide delegates an op portunity to sensitize legislative and ad minstrative leaders from Washington to the special and peculiar needs of this nations' rural elderly. Well, this question along with many more will be answered on Sunday, Feb. 4, when a public meeting will be heldto discuss the possible reorganisation of the Perquimans County Arts Council. This meeting, to be held in the courtroom, of the Perquimans County Court house, will begin at 3 p.m., with all interested citizens of Perquimans County in vited to attend An arts council, as defin ed ina letter which was mailed this past week to local artists, businessmen, clubs, and organizations, is an organisation which strives to develop, pro mote, and coordinate the arts at a community level. la Perquimans County, programs in the arts (painting, drawing, crafts, dance, music, ana drama, : just to mention a few) are sponsored within the schools and by the Per quimans County Recrea tion Department. But these programs, with the beta of an arts council, could be expanded, improved and more comprehensive, thus giving the people of Per quimans County a better opportunity to excel! in the The range of activities of an arts council are limitless. In addition to v serving as the collective voice of the arts, councils can sponsor art festival^) offer classes, hold ex habits. put on concerts, bring workshops and per formances into this coun ty; the possibilities are as broad as the arts council's imm agination. With the heip of an arts council, a talented high school student can get financial aid for art related studies. With the help of an arts council, classes that you have been attending outside of your ccunty, can be brought into our county. With the help of an art; council, classes can be organized in various pro grams areas, possibly discovering a talent that you did notknow you had. But, to have a suc cessfull arts council, hard working, interested, peo ple must be found to serve. People must be willing to donate of their time and efforts. If you are interested in the arts council idea malA your plans to attend t? public meeting on Sunday, Feb. 4, at 3 p.m. in the Perquimans County Courthouse.
