Band holds training The Perquimans County Marching Bud recently held a training cinic. This session involved the entire band with emphasis inspecialised groups during the day working on field shows to be used in upcoming per formances and competition. Don and Barbara Griffin led the clinic helping the band with various techniques. The Color Guard practiced with their new flags made by Miriam Haskett and have proudly performed with them during the football games. The skirts of their uniforms were made by Linda Privott. Another successful Car Wash/Bake Sale was held Saturday. The proceeds of this event are to be used for trasportation costs to away games and competition. Special appreciation is again expressed for Barbara Griffin instructor of the recent training clinic is second from left 1 to r: Ellen the help in providing the new uniforms and the One Stop Service Station for their co-operation in the Car Wash as well as everyone con tributing cars and time. The Marching Pirates will perform at Friday's football game with Northampton and will be traveling to Manteo to participate in the Seafood Festival Saturday. September 25. Families aad Fatare, and Up-Membership As District I chairperson for UP Memebership Lori Aaae participated in a training sessioa designed to prepare her to train other FHA HKRO members at the local level. She will conduct a workshop at the District I FHA-HKRO Rally. This rally is scheduled lor October IMS at Gates County High School. Gad Leri Ant is fee faster ?f Mr. and Mrs. James M. Gw* Two compete in Pork Queen Contest A special treat is in store for visitors to the Chowan County Fair on Tuesday night. Six girl representing five counties will be competing for the Northeast Pork Queen crown at 8:30. Misses Cheryl Faye Stallings and Donna Patricia Elliott will be representing Perquimans Count)'. They will be observed by judges at a dinner party, during private in terviews, and in evening gown competition. They will each present a three minute oral essay during the pageant. The girls will be judged on beauty, communication, knowledge of pork, and their personality. Miss Stallings is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claxton Stallings of Belvidere and is a student at Gates County High School. Miss Elliott is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Elliott of Route 2. Hertford and is attending the College of The Albemarle. Other contestants are Debra Ann Alons from Hyde County. Debbie Lynn Jordan from Chowan County, Esther Dale Adams from Bertie County and Deborah Kay Suter from Tyrrell County. The winner of the contest will receive a trophy, crown, and $100 cash award. The second place winner will receive $75 and the third place winner will receive $50. The event is being co-ordinated by the Northeast Pork Council and is sponsored by the Pair Association and the following feed companies: CargiU Nutrena. Wayne. Rich Square Pre-mix. and Ralston Purina. The oral presentation and evening gown competition will take place at S: 90 on the main stage at the Fair.
