The wedding is planned for June 5
at Piney Woods Friends Meeting in
Belvidere at 3 p.m. No invitations are
being sent locally. Friends and

children in ihcooU across North
Carolina.
Through the Adopt-A-Sehool effort,
over 2,000 adopters adopted one
thousand schools. These adopters
were parenta, buaineaaea, churches,
and other organizations. Their
asaistance resulted not only In in
creased services , but in donations of
aupplies, equipment, and other
' needed items.
The involvement of volunteera has
reautled in an increase of 25 percent
in the number of persons giving their
time to work with students, and the
number of hours they have donated
has increased 20 percent over the
past three years.
Last week waa designated as
National Volunteer Week.
Perquimans Central School honored
Its volunteers for their time snd
efforts in making this school year a
success. On Friday, April 22, ap
proximately 20 volunteera Joined
teachers and school system per
sonnel In the school cafeteria.
A welcome was extended by the
principal, Mr. Shelton Davis. After

occasion. Mrs. Brsflshaw gave en
couraging and thanlcful remarks to
the group. She, herstelf, Is an active
volunteer in imany civic
organizations.
"Volunteer servtaf has saved the
State of North Carolina $1,222,000 a
day," Mrs. Bradshaw told the group.

The bride-elect is a graduate of
East Carolina University with an MS
Degree in Home Economics. She is
School Food Service Director for
Camden County schools.
Mr. Meiggs attended Wilson Teh
cnical School and is self-employed

The wedding is set for April 22 at
Geneva Bpatist Church at 7:30 p.m.

Ms. Helen Smith and Donald
R. Matthews were united in
marriage on April 5 in
Springfield, Tenn. The bride
is a native of Calhoun, Ky.
and Mr. Matthews is a native
of Hertford. The couple spent
their honeymoon in Nash
ville. Tenn. and are making
their home in Norfolk, Va.
