John 14:26 states, "But the Comforter, Which is the Holy Ghost, Who the Father will send in My name. He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." The scene, when Jesus uttered ? these words, was during the closing hours of Jesus' public ministry, just before He gave Himself up to be crucified. So how could they remember all that Jesus had said and taught these past three years that He had been with them. Verse 26 stated above was the key. The Holy Spirit, Whom the Father would send, would call all these things to their remembrance, and He would be their comforter, or more appropriately stated, strengthened The Holy Spirit is a Person. The third part of the Trinity ? God, the Father; God, the Son; and God, the Holy Spirit. But how can we explain that, three persons in one? It's much easier for us to understand the Father and Son part, but let's face it, we don't know very much about God's indwelling Spirit. This, however, we do know. God's spirit directed the writing of the Bible. When we follow the teachings of the scripture, God's spirit is leading us. The text for today's lesson does not attempt a study of the Holy Spirit for that would be a long study in itself. It is rather centering our thought and study on what U done by the Spirit aa He Uvea in ua. For thia we turn to the Book of Romans. Life la the Spirit Rom ana I: >-17 The Apoatle Paul was not one to mince words nor use platitudes in his teaching. He went squarely to the heart of the truth and few people knew it or taught it as he did. The ninth verse is a good example of this. He speaks of two things which constrain and control us. The flesh, a word he used to mean that part of human nature that tends to rebel against God, and the Spirit of God, which leads us to a righteous life. These are warring factions which he speaks about in the book of Galatiaiio. The flesh lusteth after the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh. What Paul is saying, in essence, is that one is really not a Christian if his way of living shows that he is in the flesh and not in the Spirit. The Spirit leads people, but He does not driVe nor compel one. God has marvelously created us with the will of choice, and each must be responsible for his own choices in life. Paul, has given us several thoughts in these verses. We can mention only two or three. Second, even if you are a Christian, your physical body will die because sin haa brought death into the world. Your Spirit however, will live eter nally. Third, we owe God a great debt and our lives should be lived in the Spirit of God. We will then become God's ? children through the Spirit of adoption, heirs of God, ioint heirs with Christ. Heirs to the heavenly kingdom of God. A word from . . . . . . Mt. Sinai A story about four people, a Everbody, Somebody, Anybody, " and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could hove done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody though Anybody could do it. but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody < when Nobody did what Anybody 1 could have done. Every Christian has some gift and talent to work with in the Kingdom of God. As a part of the ~ body of Christ, you may be a strong right arm or a "pinky fin ger", or a thumb. Try to get along without one of these three and you will see how much you are needed in your church. "Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of admini- | strations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of opero* tions, but it is the same God who worketh all in all." (1 Cor. 12:4-6) Answer last week ?
