During the month of March, 400 day-care centers and over 16,000 children will be participating in the 1967 Hop-n-ing for Easter Seals. Hop-n-ing is a special project de signed for young children with a two fold purpoose. First, children are taught about people with disabilities to encourage understanding and ac ceptance of those who are different. Second, the children are given a chance to help those with disabilities. All participating day-care centers received Easter Seals' disability awareness handbook to help young children learn about disabilities. At the same time that the children are learning about disabilities, they will "hop for the handicapped." The chil dren obtain pledges fro mfriends and relatives for every hop they make in a three-minute timed period. Last year 240 centers involving over 7,000 children raised $59,000 in this special fund raiser. Proceeds from the event will ? port Easter Seal programs for physi cally disabled children and adults in North Carolina, including special equipment provision and loans, phys ical and speech therapy clilnics, adapted swimming programs, res pite care, a stroke club network, and camping oport unities at Camp Eas ter-in-the-Pines.
