: Of local interest Obituaries CAREY A. BASS Eden too, NC? Carey Augustus Bass, 89, of Rt. 3, a retired farmer and fisherman, died Aug. 10, 1968 in a hospital. Mr. Bass, a native of Chowan County, N. C. was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. Survivors include three daugh ters, Nelia Mae Taylor of Merry Hill, N.C., Christine Lamb of Belvi dere, N. C. and Ima J. Lane of ?"Hertford, N. C.; three sons, Rod ney Lee Bass of Edenton, Willis Bass of Merry Hill, and Wilbur Ray Bass of Hertford; five sisters, Sa die Hollowell, Lizzie Pearce, Les sie Layton, Cora Evans, and Bunch; two brothers, Uoyd and Lindsey Bass, all of Edei.?,.., - 32 grandchildren; and 36 great grandchildren. The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 12, in Willi ford-Barham Funeral Home Cha pel by the Rev. Donald Wagner. Burial was in Bass Family Ceme tery. Community Calendar " Towel Night ? Perquimans High School will play a Scrimmage Game against Belhaven Friday, August 19, 1988 at 7:00 p.m. at Perquimans. Admission will be the donation of a towel - new or old. Your library needs to raise money to build the new adition and you can help. Workshop scheduled Perquimans County Schools will offer an update workshop for all substitute teachers who have par ticipated in the "Effective Teacher Training". Military News CARMEN L. WHITE Marine Lance Cpl. Carmen L. White, daughter of Joyce A. and James A. White, Jr. of Tyner, N. C. has completed the Unit Diary Clerk's Course. During the eight-week course at Marine Corps Base, Camp Le jeune, N. C. White was provided with a working knowledge of proc essing and preparing a unit diary, the basic document of the Marine Corps Manpower Management System. She received instruction in the preparation of unit diaries, the au diting procedures for unit diary management documents and the general administrative require ments which fall under the review of the unit diary clerk. A 1987 graduate of John A. Holmes High School, Edenton, she joined the Marine Corps in Novem ber 1987.
