Residents raise money for local projects during annual Heart Month By BETH FINNEY Brian Center Activity Director Friday was the big day at Brian Center - the day we cele brated our February birthdays and crowned our king and queen as we wrapped up our annual Heart Month celebra tion. Etta Walton and Robert Sutton were crowned our king and queen because they got the top number of votes from residents, staff, volunteers and family members. Birthdays celebrated were those of Edna Bond, Virgie HoUowell and James Harrell. Other Heart Month activities included a bake sale, peanut sale and heart tree. Hearts were purchased to hang on the tree in the entry area either in memory or in honor of a loved one. Friday’s party also included a raffle, with some great items won by those who held lucky tickets. All the proceeds from the special Heart Month events was donated to “Perquima,” a task force of 2020 formed to raise funds to go back into the county. In March, we’U have a very special event. On March 4 at 7 p.m., we’ll have Steve Austin performing here. Austin is a country and gospel performer who has had a song on the charts and two shows on the Nashville Network. He has opened shows for county greats Don Williams, Mel TUlis, Michael Martin Murphy and others. He will pick, sing and clog dance through 50 minutejs of down-home coun try, bluegrass and uplifting gospel songs. This event is open to the public.
