Page 8 ■ The Perquimans Weekly, Hertford, N.C., Thursday, August 13, 1998 State sets hunt dates, public hearings COA looks for new leader North Carolina dove hunters not only will have a three-way split season for 1998- 99 under dates approved by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, but they again will have an early Canada goose season and a nine-day experimental teal season. First segment of the dove season will be Sept. 5-Oct. 10. The second segment is Nov. 23- 28 and the final segment opens on Dec. 19, closes Jan. 14, 1999. Shooting begins one-half hour before sunrise except for Sept. 5-11 when hunting begins at noon. Hunting days end in all segments at sundown. The daily bag limit is 12, possession limit is 24. All hunters must have a valid hunting license. Harvest Information Program (HIP) certification for dove hunting as well as all other migratory birds and shotguns must hold no more than three shells. Canada goose season was set for Sept. 8-30 except in the northeastern counties of Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington where it will be Sept. 1-20. There will be no open season in Currituck and Dare counties. The limit is three per day with a posses sion limit of six, and hunters must have state and federal migratory bird stamps in addi tion to a valid hunting license and HIP certification. Lead shot cannot be used in water- fowl hunting. King rails, clapper rails, Virginia rails, Sora rails and gallinule and moorhens sea sons open Sept. 5 and run through Nov. 13. Woodcock season is Dec. 18 through Jan. 16.1999, and the common snipe season is Nov. 14 through Feb. 28.1999. The experimental teal sea son will be Sept. 10-19 and it will be open in all portions of the state east of US 17. The bag limit is four birds per day. This season is under a three- year experimental program offered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Dates for other waterfowl seasons will be set at the August meeting under guide lines set by the U.S. Fish and WUdlife Service. Dates for public waterfowl meetings in each of the nine wildlife districts were approved for mid-August. They are; Aug. 17 - Marine Resources Aquarium, Manteo; Stanly County Courthouse, Albemarle, and Buncombe County Courthouse, Asheville; Aug. 18 - Craven County Courthouse, New Bern, Alamance County Courthouse, Graham, and Burke County Courthouse, Morganton; Aug. 19 - Nash County Courthouse, Nashville; Bladen County Courthouse, Elizabethtown, and Yadkin County Courthouse, Yadkinville. Stubbins on search committee The search for a new presi dent for College of The Albemarle is underway and staff and faculty from the col lege and members of the com munity from COA’s seven- county service area will be heavily involved.
