Lunch - Barbecue sand wich w/slaw or corn dog nuggets, potato rounds, green peas, manager’s choice veggie, apricots, milk. Due to construction, menus for Perquimans Central School will be as follows for Dec. 7-11: Monday - Breakfast - Super donut. Lunch - Chicken nuggets or pizza, fries, green peas, corn, pears, biscuit, milk. Tuesday - Breakfast - Breakfast-on-a-stick. Lunch - Chili w/fritos or ham and cheese sandwich, boded potatoes, beets, cabbage, peaches, milk. Wednesday - Breakfast - Pecan spins. Tuesday - Sliced turkey w/gravy, turnip greens, apple sauce, biscuit, jello, milk, Wednesday - Barbecue pork, coleslaw, juice, baked beans, corn muffin, cookies, milk. Thursday - Barbecue chicken, vegetable medley, beets, toast, noodles, oranges, milk. Friday - Vegetable beef soup, pimento cheese sandwich, juice, bread, cookies, milk. ❖ Athletic Boosters The Perquimans County Athletic Boosters will meet on Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Perquimans High School. The proposed articles of incorporation will be reviewed. The vote will be taken on Jan. 4. ❖ Santa Tree For the 7th year, the Santa Tree will appear in Woodard’s Pharmacy. Each year this tree helps over 100 children in Perquimans County have a merrier Christmas Stop by Woodard’s Pharmacy and help make a smile. The tree is spon sored by the Parksville Puritan Club and Woodard’s Pharmacy. ❖ Holiday anxiety seminar Have you suffered the loss of a loved one ( I you suttered tne loss of a loved one or find it difficult to face the holidays? If so, Chowan Hospital realizes how these difficulties can affect anyone. A free seminar for anyone who needs assistance in the area of coping with the anxiety and stress for the upcoming holidays is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 9, noon-1 p.m. in the Chowan Hospital class room B. Martha Early, MSW, CCSW, a clinical social worker who has contributed to the well-being of people who have faced loss and grief, will present the program. A free lunch will be provided. To reserve your spot at the free seminar, please call Scott Harrelson at Chowan Hospital at 428-6242. ❖ Schools host open house The Perquimans County Board of Education will host an open house on Dec. 2, 3-4:30 p.m. at the Central Administrative Offices on Edenton Road Street. ❖ Inter-Agency Council The Perquimans County Inter-Agency Council will meet Dec. 10 at 7:30 a.m. at the Perquimans County Board of Education Building. ❖ Christmas concert The Perquimans County High School Band and Chorus will present their annual Christmas Concert, Sunday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. in the PCHS auditorium. Autumn Helen Bateman, on Nov. 13, 1998 at Albemarle Hospital. The baby weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Gar;. : ra I- Herti^ a. Paternal grandparents are Sherry Newton of Washington and Martin Bateman Sr. of Hertford. Mrs. Bateman is the former Danielle Decker of Hertford. Randy Glenn Winslow Jr. Randy and Paige Winslow of Hillsborough, announce the birth of their first child, a son, Randy Glenn Winslow Jr. on Nov. 4,1998 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. The baby weighed 9 pounds 12 3/4 ounces and was 22 1/4 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Robert and Eloise Hollowell of Hertford. Paternal grandparents are Lawrence and Kathryne Winslow of Belvidere. Local volunteers honored by governor The Governor’s Office of Citizen and Community Services announced on Nov. 23 the recipients of the 1998 Governor’s Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Service for the North/East Region of the state. Gov. and Mrs. Hunt will honor 177 indi viduals and 51 groups from 34 counties on Monday, Dec. 7 at the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts on the cam pus of North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount. The ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. “These award recipients represent the best North Carolina has to offer,” Gov. Hunt said. “I commend them for dedicating their time and talents to creating a brighter future for all North Carolinians.” The Governor’s Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Service was first awarded in 1979 by Gov. Hunt, and 1998 marks the 20th consecutive year that individuals, groups and businesses have been hon ored for providing exemplary service to their communities on a volunteer basis. At his statewide Volunteer Summit in January, Gov. Hunt challenged each county in North Carolina to hold a coun tywide volunteer summit dur ing 1997 - “The Year of the Volunteer.” Since January, 69 counties have either held or planned summits to determine their volunteer needs and how their communities can work together to meet those needs. In January, Hunt also chal lenged North Carolinians to meet President Clinton’s America’s Promise goal of establishing 40,000 volunteer mentors for at-risk youth in every state. Recipients from Perquimans County include Alice Delphine Barr, Sharman Haskett, Eugene P. Knight, Pat Parks, Connie Casper Townsend and Relay for Life (American Cancer Society). Barr was noted for her work with the county’s senior citi zens; Haskett for her efforts to preserve history through the Perquimans County Restoration Association; Knight for his volunteerism through the Governor’s One- On-One Program working with troubled youth; Parks for fundraising for C.M.N. and White Christmas; Townsend for activities through 4-H; and the Relay for Life team for sur passing its fundraising goal in 1998. COA to host interactive Year 2000 conference College of The Albemarle will host the interactive tele conference “Meeting the Year 2000 Computer Challenge: Schools, Colleges, & the Millennium Bug” from noon-2 p.m. on Dec. 7 at COA’s Lecture Auditorium. The teleconference, which will be produced by the U.S. Department of Education, will focus on specific problems for schools and colleges including personal computers, local area networks, transportation, pay roll, library, heating and cool ing, security, registration, and admissions.
