Leary and Edward Warren '. Bond and the husband of I the late Pencie Harrell ; Bond. He was a member of • Edenton Baptist Church Tand an Army veteran of WWII. Surviving include his .. son, Herman Bond; his sis- t ter, Cora Morrison of t Wilson; his brother. Rev. : George Bond of Richmond, . Va.; three grandchildren; ; and two great-grandchil- , dren. ^ A celebration of Mr. Bond’s life was held Sept. 24 • in Beaver Hill Cemetery ^ with Dr. Paul Pridgen offi- ' ciating. Evans Funerals & Cremations of Edenton served the Bond family. Eula Mae Jordan Eula Mae Morgan Jordan, 75, of the 1100 block of Ocean Hwy, North, Hertford, died Monday, ’ Sept. 16, 2002 in her home. Mrs. Jordan was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late " Thomas Edward and Eula West Morgan. A homemak- : er, she was a member of Mt. ' Sinai Baptist Church, its Women’s Missionary Society, and the church choir. Mrs. Jordan was also a Sunday school teacher • and Vacation Bible School leader. Surviving are her hus band, William Edward Jordan. On Sept. 21 of this year they would have cele brated 55 years of mar riage. Also surviving are two daughters, Sarah LuAnn Jordan of Charlotte and Amy Morgan Jordan of Greenville; a sister, Louise Morgan Nixon and hus band, Thomas of Hertford; and two sisters-in-law. Hazel Morgan Gibbs of "Elizabeth City and Lib Morgan of Winfall. She was preceded in death by a sis- ' ter, Imogene M. Umphlett and husband, Charlie; and four brothers, Clifton Morgan, Shelton Morgan, Wallace Morgan and wife, Gladys and Ernest Morgan and wife, Ethelene. Funeral services were held Sept. 19 in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church by the Rev. Howard Sutton, pastor. Burial followed in Cedarwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, assisting the fam ily with arrangements. Memorial contributions may by made to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, in care of John Mansfield, 801 W. Grubb St., Hertford, NC 27944. Anna Lee Derrick McGoogan Anna Lee Derrick McGoogan, 86, of 501 S. Edenton Road Street, Hertford, died suddenly Saturday morning. Sept. 21, 2002, in Albemarle Hospital. Born in Newberry, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Lottie Etheridge and John Sidney Derrick. She was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Franklin A. McGoogan; a daughter, Letitia M. Miller or Clarksville, Md.; a son, Franklin A. McGoogan Jr. of Tallahassee, Fla., and 6 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sept. 24 in Hertford United Methodist Church with former pastor. Rev. Jon Strother officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Wood Cemetery with Swindell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Katherine Mansfield Powell Mrs. Katherine Mansfield Powell, 74, of 750 Mt. Hermon Church Road, Elizabeth City, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002. Mrs. Powell was born in Perquimans County, the daughter of the late William McKinley Mansfield and Annie Nixon Mansfield. Mrs. Powell is survived by one daughter, Kathy P. Holland of Suffolk, Va.; two sons, James “Peanut” Powell of Elizabeth City and Thomas K. Copeland of Tulsa, Okla.; one sister, Sybil Russell of Elizabeth City; four brothers, Pete Mansfield of Winfall, William Mansfield of Hampton, Va., Whitie Mansfield of Md., and Thomas Edward Mansfield of Hertford; and five grand children. She was prede ceased by three sons, Bobby Copeland, Jimmy Allen and Johnny Allen. A graveside service was conducted Sept. 23 in Cedar Wood Cemetery, Hertford, with the Rev. Eugene Mansfield officiating. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, was in charge of arrangements. Programs remembering the heroism of Sept. 11, 2001 and those who lost their lives were held at all four schools. Farm bill forum set Mount Olive College will hold a forum on Oct. 17 con cerning the implementa tion of the 2002 Farm Bill. Don Scott, director of the Agribusiness Center at Mount Olive College and coordinator of the event, said the purpose of the forum is to share informa tion with those who are impacted by the rules and regulations of the 2002 Farm Bill. He noted that federal and state leaders who have responsibility for implementation of agricul tural, conservation, rural development, and educa tion programs will present the latest information on the impact of the 2002 Farm Bill on their programs. The event will kickoff at 9:15 a.m. in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center with a reception and regis tration. The forum will con vene at 9:50 a.m. First on the agenda will be a discus sion of the political envi ronment surrounding the development and passage of the bill, followed by an overview of the bill’s effects on cotton, cereal grains, and peanuts, as well as conservation programs. Albemarle Chorale concert The American Guild of Organists and the Elizabeth City Music Club will host the Albemarle Chorale on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. in the Corinth Baptist Church, US 17 South, Elizabeth City. The Albemarle Chorale, under the direction of Rosalind MacEnulty with accompanist, Jackie Copeland, and sponsored by College of the Albemarle, will perform Vivaldi’s Gloria and excerpts from Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Haydn’s The Creation.
