Mrs. Beulah S. Davidson Dear Mrs. Davidson: Seeds from pine trees have very undeveloped embryoes when they are shed from the tree and do not germinate easily. Therefore, they should be placed between layers of sand, peat or sawdust in a container, put in the refrig erator at 0 to 10 degrees centegrade from three to six months, bring to room temperature and plant in a pot with a mixture of peat and garden soil. Dear Mrs. K; I have some onion that I have had for over a year. Do you think they will still come up if I plant them. Mr. Mapp Dear Mr. Mapp: Onion seeds usually do not germinate after a year even under the best conditions. FAYETTEVILLE State Colored Normal School was its name when founded in 1877. Now, almost 100 years later, it is Fayetteville State University and the transition has been one of astounding growth and development. In 1972, Dr. Lyons be came the first Chancellor of Fayetteville State Univer sity as FSU came under the umbrella of the 16-campus concept and became a con stituent mstitution of the University of North Carolina system. FSU was established by Senate Bill Number 472 which was ratified by the General Assembly of North Carolina on March 8, 1877. The bill was introduced in the Senate by Thomas Nicholson from Iredell County and was known as the "Act to establish normal schools.” The University has been known by the following names: State Colored Nor mal School, 1877; State Colored Normal and In dustrial School, 1916; State Normal School for the Negro Race, 1921; State Normal School, 1926; Fayetteville State Teachers College, 1939; Favetteville Ms. Dent Dear Ms. Dent; The taproot is the main, large root of the plant from which all other roots branch.
