HERNDON, Editor PHONE 167 Smith-Hord Vows Spoken On Friday Miss Peggy Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Sittith, became the bride, of Joe Lawrence Hord, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Hord, Friday j night at 8 o'clock in the First Bap tist church. Rev. L. C. Pinnlx, the ; pastor, officiated using the double! ring cef-emony. The vows were spoken before a background of legustrum, boston fern, and palms interspersed by ca- J thedral candelabras holding lighted tapers in pyramid ?tyle across the entire back. Floor baskets of white gladioli,- fever- few and baby breath completed the beautiful setting. White lighted tapers in graduated *>tands entwined with ivy were used on the choir railing and in the win dows. The pews for the family and spe cial guests were marked by minia ture bouquets and satin ribbons. Wedding Music Miss Betty Jean Gaulden of York, S. C., cousin of the groom presented a program of wedding music which Included "Indian Love Call" by Friml, "Andante Cantabile" by Tschalkow, "Clair de Lune" by De bussy, "Always," by Irvin Berlin. Miss Mary Beth Hord, sister of the groom, sang 'Through the Years," by Youmans, "Because," by D'Hardelot and "O, Per/ect Love," as the bene-, diction. The wedding march from "Lohengrin" was played for the pro cessional, and the march from, "Midsummer Night's Dream" for the recessional. "To A Wild Rose," by McDowell, was softly played during the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her father. Mr. Hord was his son'' best man. Ushers wore P. M. Maun ey, Jr., of Shelby, cousin of thr groom, Demauth Blanton, Roher Smith and Houston Smith, brother of the bride. The bride wore a gown of heavy Dutchess satin, the sculptured bod *oe was buttoned with tiny satin bur tons and was topped by a yoke o' -embroidered Chantilly lace and see pearls. The long pencil slim sleeve ended in cala lily points over thr hand. Her full skirt featured a cp thedral train. Her finger length \fi of imported French illusion was he) by a Juliet cap of rosepoint lace f.r circled with a halo of crushed illus ion roped with seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of wM* carnations. Illy of the valley anf tmaliene centered with a purpU throated orchid and showered w j 1 1 satin ribbon and tuberoses. Bridesmaid* Mrs. Robert Smith, Was her sis ter-in-law's matron of honor. She wore an orchi'd taffeta gown fashion ed with a fitted Ixxlice, drop should er neckline and a full skirt. Her headdress was of French maline and asters. She carried a nosegay qI orchid asters showered with or ehid satin ribbon. Bridesmaids were Miss Joyce Fos ter, Miss Betty Knox Davis, Miss Bet ty Lou Hayes and Miss Glayds Sex ton. Their gowns of green taffeta were identical with the matron of tionors. They carried nosegays of yellow asters, tied wirh yellow sa tin ribbon. Little Edith Jane Kincaid, dau ghter of Mr and Mrs. A. W. Kincaid j was the flower girl. Her dress was of orchid taJfeta anJ she carried a bas- ' ket of row petals. Kenneth Barnes, young son of Mr. and Mrs. B. N. Barnes, was ring bearer. He was dressed in a white linen suit and caried the ring on a white sarin pillow. The bride's mother was attired in a crushed rose crepe dress and wore a shoulder corsage of orchids. The bridegroom'* mother wore an ice blue crepe dress with a shoulder ?corsage of red rose*. Mis* Maxine Hord and Mist- Mary Alice Nelson presided over the reg jsier in the front of the church. For a wedding trip the bride wore a white suit and hat with a Polka dot blouse, bag and shoes, and the orchid from her bouquet. On their return The couple will be at home on the York Road. Mrs. Hord was graduated from the Central high school. Sh^ is employed by the Mauney Mills. Mr. Hord was also graduated from the Central high school and attended State Col lege. He is at present employed by the B. & B. Food store. Linwood College Reunion Held Former students of Linwood Col lege me* at the Greek Park last Sat urday for a reunion. Each class from 1900 thru 1921 was represented. A former student form Charleston was the farthest from home 4n attend ance and Mrs. Thomson from Gas ronia, rhe nearest. A memorial service for Rev. A. T. Lindsay, former president, was heJd. Attending from Kings Mdjuntain were Miss Willie McGill, Mrs. J L. Ha 1 1 man, Mrs. B. D. Ratterree, Miss Marjorie Hord, and Mrs. P. D. Fulton. Bridge Party Given By Mrs. Martin Harmon The main dining room nt the ountry Club was beautifully deeo ated with gladioli and snapdragons Wednesday afternoon When Mrs. Martin Harmon entertained with six '^bies of bridge. An ice course consisting of mold ed pink ice cream roses, individual ?akes and punch, was served on the ;uests arrival. After several interesting progres -ions, high score award was presen ;ed Mrs Fred Finger. Mrs. C. D. Blan on received second high award, al >o the f loating prize for bidding and making a slam.
