X Jeciiili/ % Elizabeth Stvxoart , Editor Winners Announced In Duplicate Game Winners In the regular game of duplicate bridge played Thurs day evening at 7:45 at the Coun try club were announced Friday by Mrs. C. E. Warllck. ?. C. E. Warllck and W. R. Jr., scored first In North South position and Mr. and Mrs. George Houser and Mrs. Sam Da vis and Mrs. Mart Reid tied for second and third high positions. Winners in East- West position were Mrs. Hayne Blackmer and Mrs. Hugh Ormand who tied with Jack White and C. E. Warllck for first and second place positions Mrs. D; M. Peeler and Mrs, Earl Byrd won third place in East West scoring. Regular monthly masterpoint bridge game is to be played Thursday (tonight) at the Coun try club, and all bridge players are invited to participate In the game, Mrs. Warllck said. Mrs. Jack White Bridge Club Hostess Thursday Night bridge club members met last week af the home of Mrs. Jack White. Mrs. N. II. Reed. ?? visitor ol j the club, won high score In bridge 1 tqr the evening, and Mrs. W. S. Pulton, Jr., received the club's low score award. Arrangements of mixed glads ; decorated the home, and the hos tess served a dessert with cold drinks. Thursday Book Club * Held Regular Meeting Thursday Afternoon Book club members mfet last week at the home of Mrs. R. S. Plonk In Bes semer City. ' ; Mrs. E. A. Harrill, program chairman for the meeting, had arranged a program on "The Life of Edward R. Murrow," and she was assisted In presenting the program by Mrs. M. L. Harmon , and Mrs. M. L. Plonk. Mrs. Har rlll also read the winning speech on the "I Speak For Democracy" 'contest. I Two hew members, Mrs. L. C. jParson and Mrs. E. <p. Cooper, were welcomed by the club. Mr 3. P. G. Padgett, club president, pre sided over the business session. Mlsk Ethel Plonk was a visitor at the meeting. During the sbcial hour follow ing the meeting, Mrs. Plonk was assisted in serving a salad plate with a dessert course and iced tea. Mrs. Plato Heavner welcomed callers at the front entrance of the home and Invited- them into the dining room where guests were presented to the receiving line, composed of the couple, their parents, the host couple, and members of the wedding party. An- arrangement of dahlias with greenery was used as a cen terpiece for the hall desk, where Mrs. Andy Huffstetler presided at the bride's register. A center piece of roses and gladioli, flank ed on each side by candleholders holding white tapers and a flower bowl of roses and white gladioli was used on the coffee table. A three-tlerted pink, white, and green wedding cake topped with candy molded miniature bride and groom figurines and flanked | on each, side by two sliver can delabrum holding tapers, center ted the refreshment table. Miss Riddle gave her brides maid attendants In the wedding a candy slipper filled with candy flowers, a part of the table deco ration, and gave her roaid of hon or a white candied wedding bell, also a part of the decoration on the brlde-s table. A silver punch service was set on a smaller table, and Mrs. T. J. Ellison poured llm? punch. The Couple's Bridge Club Held Meeting Thursday | Couple's Bridge club members met Thursday evening at the (home of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Fln-i |ger. , Bridge was enjoyed throughout ! the evening, and prizes were pre [sen t?d to Mrs. S. And whereas, for many years Mrs. Moss was a leader in the Wo man's club and in all the other activities of the women of Kings Mountain, a faithful voter in elections and an enthusiastic sup porter of projects to benefit the town. And, whereas, she made her profession of faith in Christ early in life and was active In the church ? a consecrated leader In the woman's work, of and for, a number of years, was a leader of a circle in which she will be greatly missed. Mrs. Moss was a since rc Christian, a faithful wife, a devoted mother, and a loyal friend. Committee | Bible School Closes At Temple Baptist Vavation Stole school at Tem ple Baptist church closed Friday at noon with a picnic lunch for all pupils anil teachers. The dally average attendance was 123, as reported by Rev. H. G. McElroy, pastor. Closing exercises were held Sunday night at 7:3U in the chur ch auditorium with a short pro gram presented .by each school department. Handiwork accomplished by each pupil was also displayed Sunday nlg^)t.
