Peeler won high in bridge for the afternoon, and the second-high award went to Mrs. J, B. Simpson. The hostess servted a dessert course before progressions, and later passed lemonade with nuts. Mrs. Ben T. Jackson returned to Durham Monday after visiting here at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Davis. Dr. Jackson was here over the week end; they leave this week for a vacation in St. Louis, Mo., Nash ville, Tenn., and Jacksonville, Fla. CHy Police Officer Spoke ; At Circle Meeting Monday . Members of Circle 5 of Central Methodist church met Monday evening at the home of Mrs.,Bun Goforth and heard an address by Sgt. Martin Ware, a member of the Kings Mountain police de partment. Mr. Ware spoke on a program arranged by Mm. Y. F. Throne burg, program chairman, and us ed the topic, "Progress of Prison Conditions In North Carolina." Miss Grace Davis, circle chair man, presided over the business fession, and refreshments were served during the social hour. Eleven members attended the meeting. Mrs. C. A. Goforth, Sr., will be hostess to the circle for its September meeting. Lutheran Church Circle Held Meeting On Monday Derrick-Stender circle mem bers of St. Matthew's Lutheran church met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Carl Ramsey with Mrs. Katherine Ramsey as Co-hostess for the meeting. Mrs. G. E. Bridges, program chairman, had arranged a pro gram on "Missionaries in Other Lands" and she was assisted in presenting the program by Mrs. Dan Finger, Mrs. D. W. Blanton, Mrs. Jacob Cooper, and Mrs. Carl Ramsey. Mrs. Johnny Kerns, circle chairman, presided over the busl. ness session. The hostesses served peach ice cream with fudge bars and cold drinks.
