K" /octet tj Methodist Circle I Held Regular Meeting Circle I of Central Methodist church met Tuesday morning at the home of Mrs. Sam Davis. Ele ven members attended. Mrs. E. W. Griffin was program chairman for the meeting, and after the program and devotion al, the business session was con ducted by the chairman, Mrs. J. T. Lathtem. A social hour was enjoyed fol lowing the meeting, and refresh ments were served. Grace Methodist Class Held Regular Meeting The Intermediate Young Ptep pie's group of Grace Methodist church met Monday night at the home of Misses Betty Sue and Shirley McDaniel. Miss Peggy Hawkins, the class president, conducted the business aecslon, and Miss Loralne Jonas, the leader, had charge of the pro gram. Sandwiches with potato chips, cookies, and cold drinks were ser ved. Miss Margaret Cornwall Methodist Circle Hostess Circle 4, of Central church, met Monday with Miss Margaret CornwelJ on King st. Seventeen members were present, i Mrs. M. C. Poston conducted the .devotional. A program, "The j Church In Our Urban Society", j was presented by Mrs. L. L. Alex lander, Miss Alice Averitt, Mrs, Cornwejl, Mrs. Poston, and Mrs. Margie Alexander. Routine business was conducted by the leader, Mrs; Ellen Petro sino. T ?' ? > I Mrs. Lee Dixon Hostess | To Baptist Church Circle Lou Cornwell circle members of First Baptist church met Mon day at the home of Mrs. Ltee Dix on. Twelve members attended. Mrs. Fred Dixon, program chairman, had charge of a pro gram and devotional, and Mrs. Vera Cash, the chairman, con ducted the business session. During the social hour, the cir cle honored one of its members, Mrs. Jo Ann Moore, at a shower. After gifts were opened, refresh ments were enjoyed. PERSONALS:? Mr. and Mj-s. John H. Clyde Dettmarr and children, of Gastonia, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Smith on Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Tate were In Shelby Saturday where they attended the wedding of Miss Ja net Hord, tjf Waco, and Arlis Tate of Shelby. The wedding was at 4 o'clock in the Elizabeth Baptist church. Mr. Tate was best-man for his brother. Mr. arid Mrs, Tommy Yarbor ough and Rita Bell, of Kings Mountain, were attendants in the Borders-Yarborough wedding in Shelby Sunday evening. Mr. Yar borough was best-man for his brother, Mrs. Yarborough was a bridesmaid, and Rita Bfell was flower girl. Mr. and Mrs. Tim Hord and 1 family spent Saturday in Char lotte. Mrs. J. B. Champion and chil dren, of Earl, visited here Friday at the home of Mrs. Champion's sister, Mrs. Tim Hord and family. Miss Margaret Harmon Is visit ing for two weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Evans and family in Spartanburg, S. C. Ben H. Goforth and Charity Go forth spent the weekend In Syl via, where they accompanied Mrs. Goforth home. Mrs. Goforth had been visiting her motherland oth er relatives there. Miss Dolores Davidson, accom panied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Davidson, left Wed nesday to return to Guilford col lege to assist with upper class men registration. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Davidson and Dolores spent Sunday with relatives in Greenville and Lnn drum. S. C. They were accompa nied >by Mrs. Ernest Fore, Mrs. O. D. Whaley, Miles Fore, and Gall Fore, of Gastonia. Methodist Circle 6 Held Regular Meeting Members of Circle 6 of Central Methodist church held their regu lar- monthly meeting Monday night at the horn*? of Mrs. T. L. Trott. ;; . . . .. Mrs. Ililliard Black was in charge of a devotional for the meeting. ancj Mrs. Kred Wright. Jr., program chairman, presented the program. Mrs. Trott, circle chairman, pre sided over the business session, and a dessert course with punch was served. Twelve circle mem bers attended the meetirg. Mrs. W. E. Blakely Garden Club Hostess . Town and Country Gardten club members met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. W. E. F'ake ly Mrs. D. W. Blanton." the presi dent, opened the meeting and pre. sided over 'he business session. Committee reports were heard. Mrs:- W.T. Weir was program chairman for the meeting, and she discussed the subject, "The Growth of Iris".. Summer flower arrangements had been prepared by members and were used throu ghout the Blakely home. The hostess served a salad course with accessories. Fifteen members attended. Mrs. E. B. Ellerbe Observes ? Birthday Twenty- two guests assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Weir at 7:30. September 8, to | celebrate the birthday yf Mrs. K B. Ellerbe, mother of Mrs. Weir, at a surprise party. After mak ing merry with progressive con versation for an hour, the guests 'were invited into the dining room. In the center of the table a large white two-tiered cake, de corated with swebt peas In pastel shades, tiny sugar birds, clusters of pink bells, and topped with a miniature sugar lady's slipper filled with pink flowers, was flanked with a . tray containing eighty-one blue and pink lighted candles. Dainty fern outlined the tray and the tali white cake hold er, above Which a ruffle of pink nylon net over paper lace adorn ed the base of the cake. Following the singing of "Hap. py Birthday" by the guests, Mrs. Ellerbe blew out the candles and cut the first slice of cake. Miss Janet Scoggins presided at the birthday table; and Mr. and $4rs. Weir, assisted by Mrs. J. G. Darracott, served crystal glasses of ice cream !n Inger ale. Those enjoying tue festive oc casion were Mesdames H. T. Ful ton, M. L. Harmon, Rufus Plonk, C. S. Plonk, R. G. Plonk. E. L. Regular Meeting Held Of Methodist Circle 8 Members of Circle 8 of Central Method 1st church met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. C. W, Falls. Mrs. David Saunders was in charge of the opening devotional,, and Mrs. Lallage Falls, program chairman. Introduced the panel program. Mrs. C. L. Jollv, Mrs. I. B. Goforth, Jr., Mrs. C. *W. Falls, and Mrs. Ben F Beam assisted Mrs. Falls in discussing the sub ject, "Jesus' Concern For His Cities.'' Mrs. C. W. Falls, the circle j chairman, presided over the busi- 1 ness session. Temple Baptist Circle Reorganized On Monday The Dorothy Lee Morris circle of Temple Baptist church was i^ organized Monday night, in meet ing at the home of Mrs. E. O. White on Kulton street, and the name of the circle changed to the "Star." Mrs. Randy Blanton, circle chairman, opened the meeting with a devotional and conducted the business session. Participat ing on the program were Mrs. W.A. Childers, Mrs. E. B. Cooke. Mrs. Blanton, Mrs. Norman Da vis, Mrs. White, and Mrs. Dewey Styers. Seven members and one new member, Mrs. Lee Blanton, were present. Refreshments were serv ed during the social hour. Mrs. R. H? Hoi d will be hosttess to the clfcle in October.
