i; People In The News Katherine (Mrs. Aubrey Mauney has gone to Minnea polis, Minnesota, for a mer ger convention of Lutherai churchwomen represents the United Lutheran Churci In America; the Augustam Lutheran church; the Ameri can Evangelical Lutherai Church and the Suomi (Fin nish) Lutheran church. Mrs. Mauney, president o the Southern Conference o the North Carolina Synod o Lutheran Churchwomen, wil be attending the conventior three days this week in Min neapolis. She plans to sta^ an extra day for a leadership training institute. in addition to her churchwork, Mrs. Mauney is presides this year of the Woman’s club. She is 3 past president o the state federation of Women's Clubs. * * * Couple Wed In Gaffney Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Carrol! announce the marriage of theii daughter, Ruby Kay, to Laurence Bolin, son of Mr. and Mrs N. Bolin. Both families are of Kings Mountain. The marriage took place Saturday, July 14th, in Gaffney S. C., with Probate Judge W. R. Douglas hearing the ex change of vows. Mrs. Bolin is a graduate of Bethware high school and is employed by Mauney Hosiery Mill. The bridegroom is a graduate of Kings Mountain high school and is employed by Glass Grocery. Following a trip to the mountains, the newlyweds are at home temporarily with the bridegroom"s parents on Gold street. * * * Comings And Goings Two Kings Mountain families, on a Western trip, recently visited the scenic wonders of Dinosaur Caverns, Arizona. The Kings Mountain party includes Mrs. Ray Alexander, Mrs. Tommy Alexander, Carol, Donna, Cindy, Tony and Di ane Alexander. The caverns are estimated to be between i50-200 million years old. * * * Seventeen Kings Mountain Baptist church young people zsnd three counsellors left Monday for a week's stay at Camp; Caswell, Baptist Assembly grounds at Southport. The 16 guests attending pre sented Miss Wrape a shower of household gifts which were ar ranged in a white-and-lace-cov ered umbrella. Overlaid with white lace doth, the refreshment table held a miniature bride and groom stan-; ing under an arch of orange^ blossoms as the focal paint of decorative interest Green punch was served from one end of the, table from a crystal punch bowl surrounded by ivy, greenery and; white blossoms. White glads in a( crystal bowl were used with cah-j dies at the opposite end. Sand-' wiches were served with cheese rings, nuts, and decorated cakes. The bride-to-be wore a navy polka-dot dress with novelty shoulder corsage, gift from the hostess. LAWRENCE DOUGLAS HOUSER Miss Sandra Camp Wed Friday Evening To Douglas Houser In Gaffney Rites Miss Sandra Jean Camp and Lawrence Douglas Houser, both of Kings Mountain, were wed Friday evening in a double-ring ceremony in Gaffney, South Car-! olina. Magistrate W. R. Douglas heard the exchange of vows, j Mr. and Mrs. Millard Metcalf,: parents of the bridegroom, Missj Betty Ledbetter and Allan My ers accompanied the couple to Gaffney for the ceremony. For her marriage the bride wore a beige sheath dress with; accessories in beige and brown. The new Mrs. Houser is a dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Camp of Kings Mountain. She is a rising junior at Kings Moun-i tain high school. Mr. Houser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Metcalf, also at tended Kings Mountain high school and is employed by the Kings Mountain Herald. The newlyweds are at home temporarily with the bride's parents. Miss Eaker's Plans Given Miss Linda Kay Eaker of Gro ver has completed plans for her marriage to George Reece Ran dolph of Smyrna, S. C., and an nounces them today. The wedding will take place Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock in Grover's Shiloh Presbyterian church. A reception, to be given by the bride-elect's parents, will be held in the fellowship hall following the ceremony. Miss Eaker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Eaker, will be given in marriage by her father. Mr. Randolph will have his bro ther, Johnny Randolph, as best man. Miss Mary Helen Greene oi Grover will attend the bride-to be as maid of honor. Brides maids will be Mass Janice Brid ges, cousin of the bride-elect, and Miss Judy Short, both oi Kings Mountain. Miss Carolyn Bridges of Kings Mountain, cousin of the bride-to be, will preside at the church register. Rev. Richard Hobson, pastor of the church, will officiate at the double-ring ceremony. A pro gram of nuptial music will be rendered by Mrs. Jackie Hambri ght, at the organ, and Vardell Neal, vocalist. Formal invitations to the wed ding have not been issued, but all friends and relatives of both families are invited to the wed ding and reception. A. H. Cornwell Notes Birthday A. H. Cornwell, well - known Kings Mountain citizen, celebra ted a birthday anniversary Sun day at a family gathering held at his daughter’s home in Sum merton, S. C. Eight of nine children of Mr. Cornwell and their families at tended. Mrs. Cornwell, who suffered a broken leg in a fall several weeks ago, was unable to at tend. Going to Summerton on Sun day besides Mr. Ooroweli from pjings Mountain were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hayes, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Cornwell and Miss Mar garet Cornwell; other children present were Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Furse of Summerton, S. C.; Mr. and Mrs. V. T. Reynolds and fa mily of Bishopville; Mr. and Mrs. Giles Cornwell and Reggie of Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. William Vinson of Rocky Mount. Mrs. O. V. Hawkins of Macon, Ga., was unable to attend. Mc Daniel has returned to Heidel berg, Germany, after spending a furlough in Fayetteville, with his wife and family are visiting here with his mother, Mrs. J. P. McDaniel. Mrs. McDaniel has been seriously ill, has since been discharged from the local hospi tal and continues to improve slowly at the home of her dau ghter, Mrs. Homer Harmon. Rev. and Mrs. James Mann and sons, Kevin, Donnie and Kent, are vacationing for two weeks. The Manns wil spend one week attending the Church Ex tension conference at Mon treat. Mrs. Wayne Wells has been staying sometime with the Hom er Harmon family to 'be at the bedside of her mother, Mrs. J. P. McDaniel, who has been cri tically ill. Mrs. Harmon and Mrs. Wells are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Jones of Murphy visited here Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Jones and family. Mr. and Mrs. 1. C. Lee and son, Jimmy, and their niece, Denise, of Pacolet, S. C., and Mrs. Pau line Lewis of Dayton, N. J. visit ed with Mr. and Mrs. Olland Pearson on Sunday. Mrs. J. K. Willis came home Sunday from Presbyterian hos pital where she spent 11 days for treatment and surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Drury and children of Concord and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Collins Drury spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Allen. Mm. Walter Orury is the former Janice Al len, daughter of the Robert Al lens, Mrs. Van Wrape and daugh ters, Misses Molly and Judy Wrape, have returned to Burling ton after spending a week with Cleveland County relatives. The Wrapes visited in Shelby with Mr. and Mrs. Holland Dixon and in Kings Mountain with Mrs. John F. Ware, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ware and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mauney and other relatives. J. after visiting her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Olland Pearson. Mrs. Marie Wright and dau ghter, June, are here from Sil ver Springs, Md., for a several week’s visit with relatives. Mr. annd Mrs. D. M. Pouchak and eons have returned home af ter a month away. The Pouchaks spent part of the time attending the Trade Fair in Chicago, Illi nois, and visiting western states. Auxiliary Names New Officers Wives of members of the Cle veland County Resque Squad re cently organized a Woman’s Auxiliary and elected officers. Mrs. Delbert Dixon will serve as auxiliary president for the year. Mrs. Elmer Martin was named vice-president and Mrs. Arthur Sprouse was elected sec retary-treasurer. Purpose of the organization is to assist tne Rescue Squad in volunteer service. Membership is open to all wives of Crew members and mothers of unmar ried Crew members. Standard and Advanced first aid courses will be available to the Auxiliary in the near future. Next meeting of the Auxiliary Will be held August 9th at 7 p. m. at the Cleveland County Res cue Headquarters on Parker street.
