Young People Set Saturday Dance; Parly Time; Junior Clubwomen Meet Monday The Manchesters of Simpsonville, S. C. will provide music for Saturday night's dance for Kings Mountain area young people at the National Guard Armory. Kings Mountain Recreation Activities Committee is sponsoring the event from 8 until I I p.m. Admission is 50 cents and by membership card. Students, from ninth grade to age 2 I may obtain a membership card at the door. Chaperones will be provided by St. Matthew's Lu theran church. * * * * COMINGS AND GOINGS Mrs. Haskel Seism has just returned from a recent visit to Honolulu, Hawaii, where her husband was on rest and recuperation leave from Vietnam. The Seisms stayed at the Polynesian Hotel at Waikiki Beach. Sp/4C Seism is stationed in the Saigon area with the 576th Ordinance Company. He will be serving in Vietnam until February. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mearl Seism of Kings Mountain. Prior to her husband's arrival, Mrs. Seism visited SP/4 and Mrs. Larry Boyes who are stationed at Scho field Barracks. Mrs. Boyes is the former Geraldine Hicks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Hicks of Kings Moun tain. Mrs. Seism teaches at East Elementary school and is the former Ann Bridges, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hood Bridges of Kings Mountain. * * * * Mrs. Tate Hostess To Tuesday Bridge Club Mrs. D. E. Tate entertained members of her Tuesday Night Bridge club at her hdme on Haw thorne Road Tuesday night. Members were present to make |p three tables of bridge. Mrs. toward Bryant was present as a visitor. Following progressions Mrs. Tate was assisted in serving homemade cake and punch. Pvt. Paul Farris of Fort Lee, Va. spent the weekend with his wife, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ross, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Farris. Other visitors Sunday of the Farrises were Sgt. and Mrs. Ray Carroll and sons, Edwin and Timmy, of Sumter, S. C. The Car rolls also visited Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Carroll, parents of Sgt. Carroll. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Griffith and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Par rish of Rock Hill, S. C. were Sun day visitors of Mrs. Conrad Hughes. Mrs. Griffith, Mrs. Par rish and Mrs. Hughes are sisters. , T-O "■■■ John' Lewis Hughes, severely burned several weeks ago in a road paving operation on Oak Grove road, is now able to come home on weekend visits. Hughes is now a patient at Charlotte Rehabilitation hospital. —•— Mrs. Charles Blanton and Miss Elizabeth Stewart attended the Western District meeting of Women of Kings Mountain Pres bytery Sunday at Rutherfordton Presbyterian church. Mrs. Blan ton is president of Women of Kings Mountain Presbytery and Miss Stewart is corresponding secretary. MISS MARGARET ALICE HARRY (Bride-elect of Willis Jenkins Hidell) Mr. and Mrs. David Lowrance Harry of Grover announce the engagement of their daughter, Margaret Alice, to Willis Jenkins IHidell of York, Pennsylvania, son Mr. and Mrs. Henry Robinson rlidell, Jr. of Newton Square, Pennsylvania. The bride-elect is a graduate of Salem Academy at Winston Salem, attended Queens college at Charlotte and was graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The prospective bridegroom was graduated ifrom George School in Bucks County, Pa., at tended Temple University and was graduated from Alderson Broaddus college. The wedding will be an event of November 25th in GroverC Shiloh Presbyterian church. Elizabeth Ann Horn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd C. Horn, ;elebrated her first birth day Monday. A family party was leld Monday evening at the Horn home with Eli zabeth's parents, her two brothers, Buddy and Lar ry Horn, her grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. Law rence Davis and Mrs. J. E. Horn, of Polkville, and her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. J. Y. Jones, at tending. The white, pink and red birthday cake was Toppea wun one eanuie anu cen tered the refreshment table which was covered with a red linen cloth. A pink flower arrangement was at one end of the table. Decorating the buffet was a crystal candelabra holding pink and red tapers. The birthday cake was cut and served with party refreshments to family members and Mr. and Mrs. Joel Whisnant, Trudy, Judy and Jeffrey Lee Whisnant. * * * * JUNIOR CLUB TO MEET Mrs. Bob Stringfellow will be guest speaker at Monday night's Junior Woman's club meeting at 7:30 at the Woman's club. The former Sybil Blanton will discuss the new pro gram available for pre-school deaf children in the Gas ton County School for Deaf.-Miss Peggy Ross, vice president, will present Mrs. Stringfellow. Miss Ross and Mrs. Dixon Adams will be co-hostesses. * * * * Mrs. Hazel Smith, Mrs. Reola Beam, Mrs. Rosa Lee Smith, Mrs. Effie Scoggins and Mrs. Alma Sellers visited recently in Nashville, Tennessee where they attended the Grand Old Opery and visited in Gatlinburg, Ten nessee. * * * * Jerry Blaine Hollifield, son of and Mrs. Jer ry Hollifield, celebrated his second birthday Sun day at a party at his home at 401 Cherry street. The 25 guests includ sd 15 young friends of ■ young Hollifield and rel atives. Jerry's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. D. V. Rathbone and Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Hollifield, all of Kings Mountain. C. Davis, Mrs. J H Yelton, Sr, all of Kings Mountain, Mrs. L. W. Carpenter of Bessemer City, Dr. and Mrs. Dennis Troutman and Mrs. Myrtle Harmon, all of Charlotte, will go to Concord Saturday to attend the wedding of Charles Douglas Yelton and Beverly Joyner Jackson. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Yelton and grandson of Mrs. J. H. Yeiton, Sr. of Kings Mountain. His bride-to-be is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Joyner, Jr of Concord. Rev. Thurmond C. Plexico will hear the double-ring exchange of vows at seven o'clock Saturday evening in Concord's St. James Lutheran church. Mrs. L. B. Mc Eachern, Jr. will be organist for the program of wed ding music. The bride-elect and bridegroom-to-be will enter the church together. Ushers will be John David Moose of Albemarle and Eddie Goodnight of Salisbury. Miss Pattie Keel will keep a register. The prospective bridegroom, a graduate of Kings Mountain high school and Lenoir Rhyne college, is an industrial engineer for Collihs-Aikman Company of Concord. * * * * Thursday, September 28, 196 Miss Denny, R. S. Lennon, Jr. Set Wedding Date Mr. and (Mrs. Howard Denny of Pawnee, Oklahoma announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Betty Sue, to Richard Simp son Lennon, Jr. of Cocoa Beach, Florida. The bride-elect was graduated from Pawnee high school and employed by American Airlines of Tulsa, Oklahoma and New York City. She is now employed by Boeing Company in Cape Can averal, Florida. Mr. Lennon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lennon of Kings Mountain. He attended Oak Ridge Military Academy and re ceived his B.S. degree in physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is now employed by the National Aeronautics and Space Adminis tration as an Electronics Engin eer in Telemetry Operations at the John F. Kennedy Space Cen ter. A fall wedding is planned. Karla Smith Has Birthday In honor of her 13th birthday which was September 20, Karla Jean Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kyle Smith, entertained friends at her home on the York Road Saturday night. Her party featured a hay ride and weiner roast. After Karla opened her gifts, games were enjoyed by all on the front lawn of the Smith home. Miss Patsy Elaine Welch, James Black Announce Plans For Sunday Wedding Miss Patsy Elaine Welch, dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. John Les ter Welch, has completed plans for her marriaige to James Wal ter Black, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Black of Clover, S. C., and announces them today. The wedding will take place Sunday, October 1, at 4 p.m. in Macedonia Baptist church. Rev. Wayne Ashe, minister of the church, will officiate at the dou ble-ring ceremony. Miss Deloris White will be organist for the program of nup tial music and Mrs. Elmer Mor ton of York, S. C. will be vocal ist. The bride-elect will be given in marriage by her father. Best man for the prospective bride groom will be his father. MISSION STUDY The Fall conference of mis sion studies for the Gastonia District of the Methodist church will be held at Gastonia’s First Methodist church Sunday, Oc tober 1, from 2:30 until 5 p.m. The church-wide study will be entitled, “Eeumenity.1' CLASS UNDERWAY The Junior high school class of Grace Methodist church will gather Saturday morning for putt-putt golf. Mrs. Harold Rid dle is the class teacher. MEN'S CLASS The Men’s Class of Grace Methodist church will sponsor a hot dog sale Saturday in the church fellowship building. COMMUNION DAY Sunday is World-Wide Com munion Sunday. At most Kings Mountain churches the Sacra ment of Holy Communion will be observed at the morning worship services. FAMILY NIGHT Forty-five members of the Sunday School attended a Family Night cook-out Sunday at Dixon Presbyterian church. A program was launched for the church with Pioneer and Senior High groups organized. Rev. J. S. Mann is pastor of the church. Scott Tracy Seism, son of Mr. and Mrs. No lan Seism, celebrated his first birthday Sunday at a family dinner held at his home. The Tignor's son, Pvt. Michael Tignor, is undergoing eight weeks of MP training following Army basic train ing at Fort Bragg. Miss Allen is Pvt. Tignor's fiancee. A parade by the Fourth Training Brigade opened the activities at 9 a.m. Saturday followed by Sentry Dog and unarmed defense demonstrations bn Wilson Field. Following the Fourth Training Brigade trainee presentation and refreshments, an open house of the MP School was held and visitors were also invited to visit barracks of the I Oth and I I th Battalions. Pvt. Tig nor is a member of the I Oth Battalion, Company B.
