Does a prospective buyer have to be a veteran to qualify as a purchas er? Docs a person deal with VA or with a real estate firm? Is ; there any saving by dealing di- 'reetly with V’A? A In answer to your first question, a person need not be a | veteran to buy a \’A-repossessed home. Such homes are generally sold through real estate brokers approv'ed by VA. The VA does not reduce its list sale price when it is approached directly by a prospective purchaser. So there is no saving to be made by not contacting a sales broker. You mgy obtain a list of approved lo- ca} sales brokers and furtlior in formation about VA repossessed homes from your nearest VA re gional office. Q-Is it true that a recent law passed by Congress provides for a burial allowance for veterans who ha\e been honorably dis- ciiarged since Jan. 31, 1955? A—Not exactly. The law pro vides that the Veterans Adminis tration may pay up to $2.5C to ward the cost of burial for a I vetei-an who was discharged un-| der conditions other than dis honorable, if he served during i wartime or after Aug. 4, 19&4, the “Viet .Nam era." For the vet eran 'Who served after Jan. 31. 1955, but prior to Aug. 5, 1964, VA may pay up to $2.50 for bu rial c.xpenses if he was receiving compensation for a service-con nected disability at the time of his death, if he was discharged' from service for a disability in- j cnirred in line of duty, or if he j ' died of a service-connectcxi dis-1 ability. The claim must be filed: with VA within two years of the | veteran's burial or cremation. ;4f. We Report Proudly •,.o J DW 3.50 4.50 5.08 6.99 r« 4^! $195,411“ 5% PER YEAR ; PER YEAR !
