Due to a great deal of
Interest which has been
expressed In the com
munity In establishing an
advocacy system, Cleve
land Tech hae announced
the course Community
Organization and Develop
ment, which begins Mon.,
Jan. IT, from 7 to 9 p. m. at
Tech’s Uptown Annex. Jim
Ledford will Instruct. It
will deal with the major
Issues Involved In ad
vocacy, from planning
comprehensive programe
to provide more effective
services on the local level,
to the need for advocacy on
a one-to-one relationship In
special situations.
In recent years, there
has been a movement to
provide a voice for those
persons within our society,
who, heretofore, have not
been able to qieak for
themselves, or who were
Prevented from doing so.
-Wnong the groups these
movements have ad
vocated for all racial
minorities, the handi
capped, and, most
recently, children.
In North Carolina, the
Governor’s Advocacy
OouncU on Children and
Youth (GAOCY) la man
dated to advocate on
behalf of the state’s
children and youth to
provide a mechanism
where a high profile may
be obtidned for unmet
needs. Realizing that this
is a very demanding
poBltlon, and realizing that
one State Council on
DevelopmenUl Disabili
ties have moved to
establish an advocacy
section within Its
organization.
Persons, 18 years of age
or older, interested In this
course may register at the
first meeting of the class
paying the 86.00
registration fee.
