Page 4B-MIRROR HERALD-Thursday, April 21, 1977 Talent Finalists Named For Contest By CINDIE SHORT KMSH8 Correapondent The KMSHS Blazer Band left for Dlsneyworld, Florida on Friday after noon. They were chosen to lead the parade In Dlsneyworld after they sent In a recording of their music and were selected. They returned Tuesday afternoon. Talent elimination was held Friday after school for the high school division to be held tn late April. Those six finalists selected were Karen Lall, Bridgette White, Theron Feemster, Phlle Wofford and Oroup, Sammy Rogers, Kenny Roseboro and Oeorge Pittman and Oroup of Albany. Girls State represen tatives were selected last week. Two rising seniors are chosen to participate In the program which gives the psu^clpants valuable experience In govern mental procedure. Selected were Loretta Husky and Laurie Jenkins. Boys State representatives are Orous Husky, Mark Sanders and Terry Tar- borough. Olrls State Is sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary and Boys State by American Legion. Governors School participants were also selected. Select sophomores and Juniors who are eligible for ac ceptance In this summer program at Winston Salem on the basis of academic record and school recommendation are chosen. They are Jeff Boggan, Keith Williams and Jeff Robinson. Mrs. Myrle McClure, choral director at KMSHS, presented a concert with her Senior Choir at Penley's Chapel In Kings Mountain. Student registered for classes for the next school year last week. The Science Club has begun plans for their camping tr4> this April. Phil Bryson and Mrs. Jackie Lavender are sponsors of the Science Club. Csu^er Day was held on Wed., April ao, for Juniors and seniors not going to college. Business, technical Institutes, nursing, etc. schools were represented. All vocational students were urged to attend. Junior and Senior members of the Beta Club of KMSHS attended a N. C. Beta Club convention In Asheville where the meetings were held In the Civic Auditorium. The students left Friday morning and returned Sunday afternoon where they stayed stt Holiday Inn Central. Students attend sessions Friday night speeches made by the state president who made a keynote speech and also Broyhill Sponsors Seminar Congressman James T. Broyhill announced today that he Is sponsoring again this year his National Issues Seminar In co operation with local Chambers of Commerce In the 10th District. The seminar program will be an all-day event In Washington, D. C. on Fri., Apr. 29, which will precede the National Chamber of Commerce annual meeting beginning on May 1. Speakers at the Congress man's National Issues Seminar will Include Mr. Bert Lance, director of the office of management and budget and Mr. John O’Leary, the federal energy administrator. Other speakers will Include Senator Howard Baker of Tennessee, the Senate Minority Leader and Congressman Jack Kemp of New York. Interested members of the Chambe r of Commerce should contact Paul Limerick of the Chamber of Commerce office In Shelby. candidate speeches were held for students running for office.
