Toy Drive Is Failing
The annual Toys For Tots cam
paign Is not going well this year.
The project Is sponsored by the

and KM Ministerial Association to
help needy children at Chrlstnnas.
Sunday about $106 was raised tor
the fund at a gospel music program
at Barnes Auditorium. Bennett
Masters, who arranged the
program, said the attendance was
"way below what was expected
Judging from past programs.”
A<knisslon to the sing was a donation
to the toys project.
Firefighters Indicated they have
collected less than one truck load of
new and repairable toys for this
year’s project.

seminar, Dec. 18-14 at Quail Roost

The seminar Is designed to
orientate new school board mem
bers with dudes they are expected to
perform during their terms.
In a special meeting last Wed
nesday evening the city board ap
proved a budget amendment or
dinance to pay for an overrun on the
Cansler Street project budget.
The amendment authorised
$17,074.94 to be taken from the open
space and park land acquisition
budget and be placed In the project
budget.
The board also gave Mayor John
Moas a "go-ahead on negotiations"
tor a site at the northern city limits
on Cleveland Ave. for Installation of
a two-mllUon gallon water storage
tank.
Bids have been adverdaed for the
tank construction.

Boy Scout Troop 91 of St.
Matthew’s Lutheran
Church working on fire-
manship merit badges
were given tours Monday
night of the Shelby and Oak
Grove fire departments.
The scouts toured Shelby
Fire Station No. 1 v^ere
they were given a
demonstration of equip
ment and explained the
duties of dty firemen.
At Oat Grove, firemen
explained the difference in
the duties of a city and
rural fireman.
Previously, the scouts
toured Kfn0> Mountain
Fire Department.
Ihey were accompanied
by scoutmasters Tommy
lOng and Don Griffin.
SINGING SERVICE
A special singing service
is scheduled at Kings
Mountain Pentecostal
Holiness Church, 508

Dec. 10. Singers from
several area churches will
perform and the public is
invited to attend, ac

ganization chartered by
the national organization.
Members work closely
with the city’s police, fire
and rescue departments by
patroling the entire
community nightly and
assist motorists with
directions and emergency
aid by monitoring the CB
emergency channels.
The Kings Mi^tain unit
is the oifiy’^'Chartered
REACT organization in
Cleveland County. The
local unit is sponsored by
the Kings Mountain
Kiwanis Club.
