"Ihe system now handles mostly, domestic waste with a little In dustrial waste." The construction con tract, granted under (Community Development Block Grant funding, calls tor 180 days to completion. However, Morets said the firm may conclude con struction before their deadline. The conduit pipe being Installed on S. Piedmont Ave. will connect with enlarged manholes In stalled last winter. Once the conduit Is In place, the electrical system will be placed underground, completing the loop for the downtown area. Ihe loop begins at the Intersection of S. Cherokee and Spruce Sts., runs down Lake St. to Gold, then back to Piedmont. Morets said once the loop Is completed the utility poles In that quadrant will be removed. ’"ITie reason the poles on Cherokee St. have not been removed as yet Is due to te fact that Southern Bell has not taken down their lines and placed them un derground,” Morets said.
