Whidden of Bessemer City announce the engagement of their daughter, Tamara, to Billy Ray Phillips, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. B.R. Phillips of Gastonia. The bride-to-be graduated with honors from Bessemer City High School where she was a member of the French Club, Junior Heart Board, Civinettes, Student Participation Organization, band, choir, choral ensemble, Beta Club and was Beta co-Queen. She is employed by Clevemont Mills in Kings Mountain. The fM-ospective bridegroom attended Hunter Huss High School where he was a member of H Club and DECA. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he is employed by Wix Corporation of Gastonia. The couple plans a June 3 wedding. ELIZABETH KAY WRIGHT ENGAGED—The engagement of Elizabeth Kay Wright and Lanny Gene Fulton is announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Wright of Route 1, Grover. Miss Wright is a 1972 graduate of Kings MounUin High School. She is employed by Cleveland Orthopaedic Associates in Shelby. The son of Mr. and Mrs. G.D. Fulton of Blacksburg, South Carolina, the prospective bridegroom is a 1966 graduate of Blacksburg High School. He attended the University of South Carolina and is self employed at Fulton Com petition in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The bride-to-be is a 1978 graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High School. ■Die bridegroom-to-be is employed by Impact Plastics, Inc. of Gastonia. The wedding will take place May 11 in York, South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Leon Sturgis, who were wed Saturday, are on a wedding trip to Sea Island, Ga. and Florida, and af terwards will be at home in Raleigh. Miss Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Neill became the bride of Mr. Sturgis in a 4 p.m. wedding in Charlotte’s Providence United Methodist Church. The Rev. Harley Dickson officiated at the double ring ceremony, assisted by Meredith Neill, cousin of the bride. Organ selections in cluded a number of Bach favorites of the bride with “Rigadoon” as the processional, “Trumpet Voluntary in D Major” as processional for the en trance of the bride and Beethoven's "Ode to Joy” as the recessional. Soloists were Miss Robyn Neill and Miss Elly Neill, cousins of the bride, who sang from the balcony of the sanctuary, “The Wedding Song.’ ’ David Moore Neill of Charlotte escorted his daughter to the altar and gave her in marriage. The bride’s wedding gown was a formal design by Priscilla of Boston of ivory organza over taffeta. The bodice, designed with portrait neckline and cap sleeves, was enhanced by appliques of Alencon lace and pearls. Flowing below the natural waistline, the full, double skirt was enhanced by a Chapel train. She wore her sister’s wedding veil, a Chapel- length mantilla of ivory illusion edged in Peau d’ange lace and attached to a flowered Juliet cap and carried a Mother-of- Parl Bible she brought from a trip to Jerusalem, topped with orchids and greenery. Miss Allison Neill of Charlotte was maid of honor and Mrs. Peter R. Herran was matron of honor. Both are sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were Miss Carol Hunter of Greensboro, Miss Robin Oleen of Monroe, cousin of the bride. Miss Debbie Pullinum of Columbia, S.C., Miss Debbie Webb of Richmond, a cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Deborah Stone of Chester, S.C., sister of the bridegroom.
